Sooryavanshi is playing with fearless intent, hammering Mohamed Shiraz through the off side with power to bring up another boundary, while Arya is matching the tempo at the other end.
A thick outside edge off Dulaj Samuditha’s delivery also races away to third man for four, keeping the scoreboard ticking. The two young openers are turning the final into a run-filled spectacle, giving India A the perfect platform early in the innings.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is turning the Tri-Nation Series final into his own highlight reel. The young opener brings up a breathtaking fifty in just 11 deliveries, sending Sri Lanka A into panic mode.
Dulaj Samuditha tries to outfox him with a slower delivery, but Sooryavanshi has enough power to clear the long-on fence for a massive six. The timing may not have been perfect, but the intent and strength were more than enough. Sri Lanka A are running out of answers as the teenage sensation continues to punish every mistake.
Kugathas Mathulan nails the yorker, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gets a healthy slice of luck as the ball takes an edge and races away to the boundary. It is turning into a day where everything is falling into place for the young opener, with Sri Lanka A still searching for a way to stop his charge.
A fiery start has turned into a complete domination act from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Priyansh Arya. Mathulan surprises Sooryavanshi with a well-directed bouncer, but the young batter reacts quickly, getting his bat up at the last moment to ramp it over the wicketkeeper for another boundary.
The two openers have brought up a sensational 100-run partnership in less than seven overs, leaving Sri Lanka A scrambling for answers.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is making batting look effortless as he takes on Sahan Arachchige. A fuller delivery is dispatched over deep extra cover for a massive six, adding to Sri Lanka A’s growing troubles. The young opener is in complete control, taking the attack apart with fearless strokeplay.
The wait is over for Sri Lanka A as Sahan Arachchige provides the much-needed breakthrough, ending Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s breathtaking assault. The young left-hander misses out on a record-breaking hundred, falling for a sensational 94 off just 29 deliveries.
Looking to clear mid-off against the tossed-up delivery, Sooryavanshi does not get the desired connection and holes out to V Viyaskanth. Sri Lanka A finally have a reason to celebrate after being put under immense pressure by the explosive opener.
Sri Lanka A have struck again, and suddenly India A have lost both their explosive openers in the space of two overs. Dulaj Samuditha removes Priyansh Arya for 39 off 29 as V Viyaskanth pulls off a brilliant low catch at deep backward square leg.
Arya gets a little too early into his flick after trying to take on the leg-side delivery, but the big boundaries make the difference as he fails to clear the ropes. After a sensational start, Sri Lanka A finally have a window back into the contest.
India A have raced past the 150-run mark in under 15 overs despite losing both openers in quick succession. Tilak Varma gets off the mark with a neat tuck towards square leg off Dulaj Samuditha, adding another run to the scoreboard.
After the explosive start from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Priyansh Arya, India A continue to maintain a strong scoring rate as Sri Lanka A search for more breakthroughs.
The boundaries are flowing again for India A as Tilak Varma takes on V Viyaskanth. The spinner offers a little too much flight, and Tilak wastes no time, smashing it straight back over the bowler’s head to send the ball racing away to the boundary.
India A continue to keep the pressure on despite the two quick wickets.
Ruturaj Gaikwad gets into his rhythm with a trademark touch of class. Shuffling down the pitch, he reaches the flighted delivery from Wanuja Sahan and drives it smoothly towards long-off for a single. India A continue to keep the scoreboard moving as Gaikwad settles in.
Viyaskanth offers a touch too much length on off-stump, and Kumar Kushagra calmly squeezes the drive towards long-off for a single. India A continue to rotate the strike as they look to build towards a strong finish.
Wanuja Sahan gets the ball to drift in from outside off, and Kumar Kushagra comes forward with a compact defence, pushing it safely into the off side. India A continue to keep things steady after the early fireworks.
Wanuja Sahan angles one into the pads from around middle, and Kumar Kushagra stays composed, working it towards the on side with the upper part of the bat. India A continue to rotate through a quiet phase after the early onslaught.
Wanuja Sahan drops it a little short, and Tilak Varma quickly adjusts his plans. Making room initially to cut, the left-hander changes his shot at the last moment, gets on his toes, and works it through deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs. India A continue to keep the scoreboard ticking.
India A needed a release shot, and Nishant Sindhu provides exactly that. Ravindu Fernando drags the length short, and Sindhu quickly rocks back to pull it powerfully in front of square, splitting deep mid-wicket and long-on for a well-placed boundary.
A timely four as India A look to accelerate while also keeping wickets in hand.
Vipraj Nigam is adding crucial runs to India A’s total with some aggressive strokeplay. Dancing down the pitch, Nigam gets to the pitch of the delivery and lofts it cleanly over wide long-on for a massive six.
India A are finding the boundaries at the right time as they look to push towards a strong finish.
A chaotic moment on the field gifts India A four as two Sri Lanka A fielders collide while attempting a catch. Anukul Roy mistimes the lofted drive off Dulaj Samuditha, sending the ball high into the air, but Sahan Arachchige and Wanuja Sahan both charge towards it and end up crashing into each other.
Arachchige initially gets his hands to the catch, but the impact forces the ball out. Wanuja Sahan takes the heavier blow and briefly needed attention from the physio, but thankfully walks off on his feet. The moment brings a pause to the action before play resumes.
India A posted a massive 377/9 in their 50 overs after a sensational batting display led by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The young opener lit up the final with a breathtaking 94 off just 29 deliveries, smashing his fifty in only 11 balls and taking the Sri Lanka A bowlers apart from the very beginning.
India A looked on course to cross the 400-run mark after racing to 132 in just 8.5 overs, but a few wickets in the middle and final overs slowed their charge. Still, Sooryavanshi’s fearless knock provided the perfect launchpad as India A finished with a daunting total, leaving Sri Lanka A with a huge task ahead.
The chase is underway in Dambulla as Niroshan Dickwella and Avishka Fernando walk out to open for Sri Lanka A, with Dickwella taking strike. Yash Thakur has the new ball in hand for India A as they look to strike early and defend 377.
Sri Lanka A suffer an early blow in their chase as Yash Thakur strikes again, knocking over Niroshan Dickwella. The opener attempts to attack from ball one but pays the price, missing a length delivery that straightens in and crashes into his leg stump.
Dickwella’s aggressive intent backfires as he goes for a big swing and fails to connect, leaving Sri Lanka A under pressure early in the innings in pursuit of 377.
Yash Thakur strike thrice as he sends Nuwanidu Fernando back to the pavilion for 21. It was kind of a lucky break as the ball was sliding down the leg but Fernando guided it into the safe hands of the long leg fielder, who made no mistake. As they say, when it's your day, make it count and Thakur is doing exactly that as all the top three wickets has been picked up by him so far.
Sadeera Samarwickrama and skipper Sahan Arachchige have stitched a run partnership to bring back Sri Lanka in the chase. The hosts are batting with a brisk run-rate of over 7 per over but they need a big partnership from this pair to stay in the match.
However, as it was looking that Sri Lanka are crawling their way back in the game, Ashok Sharma gets Samarwickrama caught by Kumar Kushagra for 52. That's a big blow for the hosts in the context of the match.
Sri Lanka A are going at a brisk pace towards the target, however it's the wicket column which is their biggest worry as they have lost half their side and they still need 205 runs to win in 26 overs. Skipper Sahan Arachchige (36*) holds the key for the hosts in the chase.
India A skipper Tilak Varma gives a massive breakthrough to his team as he gets the wicket of his counterpart, Sahan Arachchige at 38 to jolt Sri Lanka A's chase. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth joins Wanuja Sahan in the middle and both of them stitch a 41-run partnership for the 7th wicket to keep their team barely in the chase.
Anukul Roy gets a timely wicket for India A as he dismisses Vijayakanth Viyaskanth for 39 to break the 77-run stand for the 7th wicket. That's a big blow for the hosts as it kept them in the match and with this wicket, it's looking India's game to lose from here.
Roy takes a chance and tosses the ball up and fortunately for him the ball grips in the wicket, and gets the top edge of the batter, who tried to slog sweep the ball and the mid-wicket fielder comfortably takes the catch to send the batter back.
India A win the tri-nation title! Vipraj Nigam dismisses Mohamed Shiraz to bundle Sri Lanka A's innings at 311 and India A thrash the hosts by 66 to win the tournament. The Lankan Tigers put up a valiant fight and kept Indian bowlers on their toes for major part of the match but at the end the star-studded Indian team proved superior. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played an instrumental role in his team's victory as he took the away far away from the hosts in the initial 8-9 overs and after that Sri Lanka was always catching up.
That's a wrap! That's a wrap from our end, we'll be back soon with another blog, until then, bye bye.
