An India batter faces up to an India bowler at the outset. Seamer Anshul Kamboj has the ball in hand for Haryana, and Ishan Kishan on strike for Jharkhand. It's a good start for the pacer, as he delivers it on a length and draws a false shot from Kishan, though without any harm. The southpaw gets a leg bye off the second ball and that brings his partner Virat Singh on strike.
Anshul Kamboj has Virat Singh caught for 2 at mid on by Arsh Ranga in the opening over, but that doesn't peg Jharkhand back in any manner. New batter Kumar Kushagra is off to a fluent start, while captain Ishan Kishan has cut loose and stroked three sixes already in his trademark style. Jharkhand know it's a flat track and dew could come into play later, and hence need a big total.
JHA: 51/1 (5)
Kumar Kushagra (39 not out off 25) and Ishan Kishan (71 not out off 33) are putting up an exhibition of batting. The duo has notched up a 110-run stand off 56 balls, playing pure cricketing shots for the most part. Kishan races to his fifty off 24 balls, and is looking good for many more.
JHA: 113/1 (10)
Take a bow, Ishan Kishan! The marauding wicketkeeper-batter delivers a statement to the national selectors, smashing a 45-ball hundred in the final of the country's premier domestic T20 tournament. He becomes only the second batter after Punjab's Anmolpreet Singh to hit a ton in a SMAT final. Kishan gets to the landmark with a glorious one-handed six, and eventually falls for 101 off 49.
JHA: 187/2 (15)
The wheels come off in the end for Haryana. Jharkhand's relentless onslaught leads to too much pressure and a flurry of errors at the death by the bowlers as well as fielders, and Jharkhand make the most of them. They power on to a humongous 262-run total in 20 overs, which is by some distance the highest posted in a SMAT final. The previous highest was 223 for 4 back in 2023, and Ishan Kishan's men have one hand on the trophy.
JHA: 262/3 (20)
It's a quick turnaround as the innings break ends and Jharkhand take the field to try and defend their huge 262-run total. Vikash Singh has the ball in hand and Arsh Ranga, Ankit Kumar open the batting for Haryana. Vikash makes a fiery start, sending back Haryana skipper Ankit for a first-ball duck. Haryana have their backs against the wall, big time.
Vikash Singh has Ashish Siwach caught by Sushant Mishra at backward point, and Mishra himself comes on later to clean up Arsh Ranga with a splendid yorker. Jharkhand have snuffed out whatever little hopes Haryana would have raised of chasing down this unlikely target, with the early wickets in the powerplay.
HRY: 40/3 (5)
Yashvardhan Dalal (53 off 22) and Nishant Sindhu (31 off 15) were threatening to make things interesting with some middle-order resistance, but the problem with losing early wickets in such a big target is that the chasing side is always one wicket away from going back in trouble. That's what happens, as Dalal and Sindhu are both dismissed and Parth Vats falls soon after. Jharkhand now firming their grip on a maiden SMAT trophy.
HRY: 132/6 (12)
Jharkhand continue to chip away, dismissing Sumit Kumar, Samant Jakhar and Anshul Kamboj to leave Haryana nine down. It's now a matter of if, not when Ishan Kishan's men will march to a maiden title. The rest of the squad is on standby near the boundary rope.
HRY: 170/9 (16)
There comes the moment. Bal Krishna has Vikash Singh caught by Ishant Bhardwaj at backward point, and it's all over. Jharkhand bowl Haryana out for 193 in 18.3 overs, clinching a 69-run win and their first-ever Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title.
Ishan Kishan, who goes on to deservedly be named Player of the Match, uproots a stump in joy as his team win only their second domestic title in history, after the Vijay Hazare Trophy victory in 2010-11.
