Although Carse was not arrested or formally charged over the weekend encounter, his involvement has triggered renewed scrutiny.

The ECB released a definitive statement confirming that the centrally-contracted pacer will remain unavailable for selection while full facts are being gathered, prioritizing compliance with the board's code of conduct and disciplinary standards.

With Carse sidelined, the team management has called up Hampshire seamer Sonny Baker as his direct replacement. Baker, whose sole Test appearance to date came during the New Zealand series in June, joins the 15-man contingent as bowling cover ahead of the pivotal clash. This sudden shift disrupts stability following a strong start to the summer.

The timing of the incident adds further complications for the national side, echoing previous off-field disruptions earlier in the season.

Carse had spent the weekend playing in the County Championship—featuring in Durham's massive 338-run victory over Derbyshire after missing out on the playing XI for the first Test. England holds a 1-0 lead heading into the second Test at Lord's, which gets underway on Thursday.
