  • Narendra Modi Stadium received a bomb threat early on Wednesday during the India Under-19 vs Australia Under-19 match

  • Local police later confirmed that the threat was a hoax

  • The email threatened to disrupt Diljit Dosanjh’s concert scheduled for November 21 at Narendra Modi Stadium

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad received a bomb threat via email on Wednesday, prompting the authorities to step up security checks at the venue. The threat came while the second multi-day match between India Under-19 and Australia Under-19 was underway at Ground ‘A’.

According to Sportstar, a team from the Cyber Cell visited the stadium to enquire about the email, which specifically threatened to disrupt the Diljit Dosanjh concert scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on November 21.

“We informed the local police as soon as we received the email. This has happened a couple of times earlier as well, including during the World Cup 2023 and IPL,” Gujarat Cricket Association Secretary Anil Patel was quoted as saying.

The report further stated that Ahmedabad High Court, along with several schools and colleges across the city, also received similar threat emails.

The local police have confirmed that the threat was a hoax.

Khalistan Reference

According to a Gujarat Samachar report, threat emails that referred to Khalistan, the 1984 anti-Sikh violence and a claimed militant organisation have raised security concerns in Ahmedabad. The sender threatened to plant explosives at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The messages also singled out the venue for Diljit Dosanjh’s scheduled performance in the city. Security agencies are examining whether the emails point to a real breach or form part of a hoax designed to disrupt public life. The messages name the stadium complex directly and link the threat to specific dates.

Ahmedabad’s Prior Alerts

Ahmedabad has seen similar alarms before. In September, courts in the city received a bomb threat email that forced evacuations and prompted police and bomb squads to carry out extensive searches. The message referred to BRICS and used Khalistani terms, prompting a serious security response.

No explosives were found in that case. Even so, authorities began tracking the email’s origin and noted similarities with earlier hoax threats.

The city has faced multiple bomb threats.

Schools, courts, government offices and political offices in Ahmedabad have all been targeted by such messages in recent months, sparking concern over whether the incidents are isolated or linked. Police are still investigating, and arrests have been made in some cases.

No explosives have been found in these cases so far. But investigators recovered a vast email database in September and are now probing whether threats that named the Somnath Temple and BJP offices are part of an organised network.
