Both teams kicked off their campaigns with wins. Baroda rode Vishnu Solanki's unbeaten 62-ball 88 to chase down a 283-run target and beat Assam by five wickets. Bengal gunned down Vidarbha's 383-run target with seven balls to spare, as Shahbaz Ahmed hit a 58-ball 71 and Akash Deep finished 38 not out off 24.
Mohammed Shami claimed two wickets for 65 runs in his 10 overs. The out-of-favour India seamer had earlier produced a rich haul of wickets in the preceding Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
