Summary
  • Australia were 166/2 at the end of Day 2 of the 5th Ashes Test

  • Joe Root scored 160 runs, while Travis Head is unbeaten on 91

  • Australia have already sealed the series 3-1

Australia and England are clashing against each other in the fifth and final Ashes 2025-26 Test in Sydney. The second day of the Test belonged to Joe Root, who carried England’s first innings with a magnificent 160-run knock, guiding his side to a competitive 384 before tea.

Root smashed his 41 Test century and matched Aussie legend Ricky Ponting on the all-time list. He came in when England were wobbling early at 57-3 and rebuilt with calm authority alongside Harry Brook, who earlier scored 84 before falling just shy of a century.

Once Root was dismissed via a brilliant caught-and-bowled from Michael Neser, England’s lower order folded quickly, unable to offer much resistance. Misfortune struck captain Ben Stokes, who departed for a duck after a tight DRS review, dampening England’s hopes of a late surge.
