Asian Games 2023, Day 14: India Breaches 100-Medal Barrier; Gold Rush In Kabaddi, Compound Archery, Badminton Doubles, Men's Cricket - As It Happened

India crossed the unprecedented 100-medal mark at the Asian Games after the Indian men's and women's kabaddi teams, compound archers Jyoti Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale, and badminton men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won gold medals in Hangzhou on Saturday. India ended it's Asian Games sojourn with 107 medals as the men's kabaddi team as well as the cricket team clinched gold medals. In badminton, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy scripted history as they became the first ever to clinch a gold medal in badminton for India at the Asian Games. In women's hockey, Savita Punia-led India defeated Japan 2-1 to earn a bronze medal. Deepak Punia earned a silver whereas Men's and Women's chess teams closed the day with a silver medal to the Indian tally. And that ladies & gentleman, is India's final medal at the 19th Asian Games. India return with a record-breaking 107 medals and some brilliant tales of courage and determination.

4:45pm: Chess - Men's and Women's Category
Indian Men's and Women's team have won silver medals in their respective events.

3:38pm: Wrestling Silver For Deepak!
Deepak Punia bags the silver medal in the men's freestyle 86kg category after losing in a one-sided contest to the favourite, Iran's Hassan Yazadani.  

3:01pm: Bronze In Women's Hockey!
India win a hard-fought match against Japan 2-1 to finish third in the women's hockey event.

2:50pm: Gold In Men's Kabaddi!
The final eventually resumes, and India win the gold medal, beating Iran 33-29. 

2:35pm: Gold In Men's Cricket!
The final is called off due to rain, and the Indian men's cricket team get the gold medal by virtue of holding the higher ranking. 

2:32pm: Men's Kabaddi Final - IND Vs KOR 
Farcical scenario unfolding here as a contentious rule has led to a dispute between the two teams and the referees. The competition currently stands suspended as the referees continue to deliberate, while the two teams wait.

2:21pm: Women's Hockey - IND Vs JPN
The Indian women are in action in their bronze medal match against Japan, and the match is level 1-1 as of now. 

1:53pm: Gold In Badminton Men's Doubles!
Satwik-Chirag have done it! They have won the gold medal match against the South Korean pair in straight games to be crowned Asian Games champions. They became the World No. 1 men's doubles pair yesterday, and are celebrating it in style today. 

1:50pm: Men's Cricket Final - IND Vs AFG

1:25pm: Badminton Doubles Final - IND Vs KOR
Satwik-Chirag have won the first game against the Koreans after trailing for quite a while. The Indians are pumped up and need to win one more game to bring home the historic gold.

12:58pm: Badminton Doubles Final - IND Vs KOR
It's time for India's ace men's doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty to commence their battle for a historic gold medal at the 2023 Asiad. They are up against Kim Wonho and Choi Solgyu of South Korea.  

12:40pm: Men's Kabaddi Final - IND Vs IRI
Time now for the India vs Iran gold medal match. The men would love to emulate their women counterparts and sweep the kabaddi gold medals.  

12:35pm: Men's Cricket Final - IND Vs AFG
India are on top in their gold medal match against Afghanistan. They have picked up four wickets in the first 10 overs and only allowed them to score 50 runs. Follw the match live here.

10:40am: Wrestling - Deepak In Final! 
Deepak Punia becomes the first Indian wrestler to reach a final at this edition of the Asian Games. The Olympian beats Uzbekistan's Javrail Shapiev 4-3 in the semi-final. He will take on Iran's Hassan Yazdani in the gold medal match.

India achieves the historic 100-medal mark with a gold medal in women's kabaddi. The Indian women have edged out Chinese Taipei in a thrilling final 26-25 to make amends for the 34-34 draw in the group stage match.  

7:23am: Gold No. 3 For Ojas!
Ojas Deotale pips his senior teammate Abhishek Verma to bag his third gold medal at this edition of the Asiad. Ojas wins 149-147 to finish on top in the men's individual compound archery category. 

7:11am: Women's Kabaddi Final
India now in action against Chinese Taipei, the side that held them 34-34 in the group stage. The two teams vying for the gold medal here.

7:06am: Compound Archery - All-India Final
Time now for the all-India final between Abhishek Verma and Ojas Deotale in the men's individual category. Gold and silver medals are confirmed, it's purely a question of who gets which one. This should be fun.

6:57am: Men's Cricket - PAK Vs BAN
The bronze medal match between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been delayed due to rain in Hangzhou. You can check the updates and live scores of the match here. India will take on Afghanistan in the gold medal match later in the day, weather permitting.

6:48am: Compound Archery - Aditi Secures Bronze
Earlier, her teammate Aditi Gopichand Swami had won her bronze medal match to notch up another medal after the triumph in the women's team category.    

6:42am: Compound Archery - Gold No. 3 For Jyothi!
Jyothi Surekha Vennam wins her third gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games, and this time it's the compound individual women's gold. She comfortably upstages her South Korean opponent So Chaewon 149-145 to make it a very good morning for India.

Day 13 saw India surge ahead in its medal tally as the contingent confirmed a historic 100-plus medals at the Asiad. Indian men's hockey team thumped Japan 5-1 in the men's hockey final to win the country's 22nd gold at the Asian Games 2023. India's Sonam and Kiran won bronze medals in Women's 62kg Freestyle wrestling. In sepaktakraw, the women's regu team clinched a historic bronze after going down to Thailand in the semi-final. Day 14, the final day, promises more delight as Indian compound archers have more gold medals in sight, and the men's cricket team take on Afghanistan in the final. The badminton men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj-Chirag will also play their gold medal match.
