Wrestlers' Protest: Delhi Police Seeks POCSO Cancellation; Files Charge Sheet Against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan

Delhi Police recommended the cancellation of case filed by the 'minor' wrestler against the WFI chief under the stringent POCSO Act and told the court that no corroborative evidence was found.

Sexual harassment and stalking are among the charges framed in the 1,000-page charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Thursday over the allegations levelled by protesting wrestlers including world championship winners Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia.

In another case lodged against Singh by wrestlers, the charge sheet mentions offences under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment) and 354D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Charges have also been filed against Vinod Tomar, a suspended assistant secretary of the WFI, for the offences under sections 109 (abetment of any offence, if the act abetted is committed in consequence, and where no express provision is made for its punishment), 354, 354A and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Earlier today, the Delhi Police filed a final 500-page report before the Patiala House Court in the capital city seeking cancellation of the sexual harassment charges in the minor's case against the outgoing WFI chief.

Delhi Police recommended the cancellation of case filed by the "minor" wrestler against the WFI chief under the stringent POCSO Act and told the court that no corroborative evidence was found.

"In the POCSO matter, after completion of the investigation, we have submitted a police report under section 173 Cr PC requesting for a cancellation of the case based upon statements of the complainant i.e., the father of the victim and the victim herself," Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa said in a statement.

The court has put up the matter for further consideration on July 4.

On April 28, Delhi Police registered two FIRs against Singh at the Connaught Place Police Station. Singh has denied all the charges and said he will hang himself even if a single allegation is proven against him.
