Temple Demolished Amid Anti-Encroachment Drive in Delhi's Geeta Colony, Residents Moved To Shelter Homes

The demolition drive is underway in Geeta colony, Delhi, with an aim to clear the path for an upcoming road-widening venture.

In the midst of a strong police presence, the Public Works Department (PWD) initiated an operation on Monday to remove unauthorized settlements in Geeta Colony, Delhi. A temple was demolished in line with its anti-encroachment initiative triggering an uproar in the community.

The temple is scheduled to be relocated to a nearby location, according to officials.

It is reported that the inhabitants of these encroachments will be transferred to designated shelter camps established by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). A considerable contingent of police and paramilitary forces has been stationed in the Geeta Colony vicinity to ensure the preservation of law and order.

This endeavour was overseen by SDM Karol Bagh. The demolition activity took place on Paharganj and Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, as confirmed by a senior police official. The primary objective of this action is to clear the path for an upcoming road-widening venture.

"I received a notice (for temple demolition) a year ago, to which I replied back then and they (PWD) agreed to it. They again received an order to demolish from higher authorities. I agreed to it, and told them I have no objection to it," says Amarjeet Kapoor, the owner of the temple in Delhi's Geeta Colony that was demolished earlier today in an anti-encroachment drive.

According to the police, the area experienced no unfavourable incidents, and the operation is being executed in a peaceful manner.
