A special NIA court in Jammu on Monday extended the agency's custody of two men arrested for allegedly harbouring Pakistani militants  involved in the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in April this year.

Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, arrested on June 22, were produced before the court after the expiry of their previous 10-day remand. The court granted an additional 10 days of custody to facilitate the ongoing investigation.

Initially presented before a local court on June 23, the duo was first remanded to NIA custody for five days, after which the case was transferred to the Special NIA Court.

According to the NIA, the two accused confessed to harbouring three Pakistani militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba at a seasonal ‘dhok’ (hut) in Hill Park, Pahalgam,  prior to the April 22 attack. The militants allegedly received food, shelter, and logistical support from Parvaiz and Bashir.

The accused allegedly disclosed the identities of the three armed militants involved in the attack and confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated with the banned militant organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The NIA stated that the attackers had selectively targeted victims based on religious identity.

The agency continues its probe into the broader terror network behind the attack, focusing on cross-border links, local support modules, and funding channels.
