The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 AM when the gunmen entered the hospital and opened fire on Mishra, who was a prisoner at Beur Jail. He was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit but succumbed to his injuries, reported PTI.
Patna (Central) SP Diksha told PTI, that the police have registered a case and an investigation is underway, with a manhunt launched to identify the suspects. The preliminary investigations suggest that an old rivalry may have been the motive behind the killing.
More than a dozen cases are reportedly registered against Mishra, and police suspect the murder could be the result of a gang war.
Reportedly, the attack has drawn criticism from political figures regarding the state of law and order in Bihar. Opposition leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav and independent MP Pappu Yadav, condemned the incident and questioned the effectiveness of the current government in maintaining security.
In an unrelated incident on the same day, a man identified as Shubham alias Bunty was killed by unidentified individuals outside his home in Patna's Shahpur locality. Police said he was attacked with sharp-edged objects, reported PTI. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
