If Delhi Polls Were About Education, Sisodia Wouldn't Be Trailing: BJP's Parvesh Verma

Parvesh Verma argued that if the polls would have been about education and development, then Education Minister would not be trailing from Patparganj.

One of the most controversial star campaigners from the BJP during the Delhi Assembly elections, Parvesh Verma, who often accused AAP of sponsoring Biryani for Shaheen Bagh anti-CAA protesters, said on Tuesday that he accepts the poll results.

The leads shows AAP racing ahead, dashing the hopes of BJP for a revival.

BJP Parlimentarian, Verma, who was banned twice by the Election Commission for violating Model Code of Conduct and making inflammatory speeches -- from calling Kejriwal a terrorist to provacative statements on Shaheen Bagh -- maintained that the Delhi elections were not fought on the basis of education and development.

He argued that if the polls would have been about these two issues, then Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, Manish Sisodia, would not be trailing from Patparganj constituency.

At the time of filing this report, Sisodia was trailing behind by 1288 votes while BJP was leading from Patparganj seat.

Verma, while conceding the defeat, said the saffron party will work hard and give a better performance in the next elections.

Verma consistently attacked Aam Aadmi Party throughout the poll campaign and, on several occassions, linked the AAP leaders with the ongpoing anti-CAA protests in Shaheen Bagh.

Even on the polling day on Saturday, Verma posted tweeted a video of himself saying that people in Shaheen Bagh are voting for Aam Aadmi Party because they are indebted to them for Biryani.

He said AAP has been arranging biryani for Shaheen Bagh protesters and as a quid pro quo, they are voting for the AAP.

Just a day before voting day, Verma accused Sisodia of bribery and sponsoring 'Biryani' for protesters in Shaheen Bagh.

Verma said that the Sisodia's Officer on Special Duty (OSD) arrested by the CBI on bribery charges "is just a face", "the one who gets all the money is Manish Sisodia".

"With this money, he sponsors Biryani for Shaheen Bagh protesters," Verma alleged.

The parliamentarian from the Bharatiya Janata Party had earlier stirred a controversy saying that if BJP comes to power in Delhi, the protesters at Shaheen Bagh will be cleared within an hour. Referring to the protesters, he claimed: "they will enter your homes and rape your daughters and sisters."

"If the BJP forms government on February 11, not a single person will be found at (the protest site) Shaheen Bagh," Pravesh Verma, BJP MP from West Delhi, said during a meeting at Vikaspuri assembly constituency.

The Election Commission banned him twice from campaigning for having called Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a "terrorist".
