Chhattisgarh: Three Maoists Surrender In Sukma District

Three Naxalites, two of them involved in 2017 Burkapal and Bhejji attacks and carrying a total reward of Rs 8 lakh on their heads, surrendered in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, a senior police official said.

Madvi Budhra, Vetti Joga and Madvi Joga turned themselves in citing disappointment with the “inhuman” and “hollow” Maoist ideology, Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Sharma said.

They were also impressed by the state government's rehabilitation policy and district police's 'Puna Narkom (`new dawn' in the Gondi language) campaign, he said.

Budhra, who carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh, was Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) president and Kistaram Area Committee member  of the outlawed Maoist organization, the SP added.

He was involved in 2017 Burkapal ambush in which 25 security personnel were killed, 2020 Minpa ambush where 17 security personnel were killed, 2017 Bhejji ambush in which 12 CRPF personnel lost their lives and other incidents of Naxalite violence in the Kistaram and Bhejji areas of the district, the official said.

Vetti, who carried a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head was active as Kistaram Local Organisation Squad  Deputy Commander, SP Sharma said, adding that he was involved in the 2020 Minpa ambush and Tumirpad attack in which one jawan was killed. 

Madvi Joga was DAKMS vice-president under the Palachalma Revolutionary People's Committee as well as a member of the Naxalites' platoon number 8, the official said.

He was involved in the 2017 Burkapal attack, 2017 Bhejji attack and the Kasalpad attack in which 14 security personnel were killed, the SP added. 

They will be rehabilitated as per the state government's rehabilitation policy, he said.
