BJP Accuses Mamata Banerjee Of Misusing Public Funds For Image Boost

Amidst West Bengal's governance crisis, the BJP accuses Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of diverting public funds for image-building, sparking a heated political clash as TMC MPs rally against Union Minister Giriraj Singh's alleged misogynistic remarks.

West Bengal's governance challenges have taken center stage as the BJP accuses Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of diverting public funds towards what they deem as unnecessary endeavors aimed at bolstering her image. The criticism follows a protest by TMC's women MPs in Parliament against Union Minister Giriraj Singh's alleged misogynistic remarks directed at Banerjee, as reported by PTI.

Highlighting the state's pressing issues, BJP leader Amit Malaviya emphasized the crumbling physical infrastructure, deteriorating health and education facilities, a decline in the Human Development Index (HDI), escalating poverty and unemployment, unchecked crimes against women and marginalized communities, industrial closures, and a lack of new investments.

In response to Singh's comments on Banerjee's participation in the Kolkata International Film Festival, TMC's Santanu Sen raised objections in the Rajya Sabha, denouncing the Union rural development minister's remarks as an unwarranted attack on the only female chief minister in the country.

The political tussle escalates as both parties exchange accusations, with the BJP questioning the justification of hosting film stars at the taxpayers' expense in the face of critical governance issues in West Bengal. Meanwhile, TMC MPs demand Singh's expulsion from Parliament for his alleged misogynistic comments.
