103 Killed, 170 Injured As 2 Blasts Rock Iran On General Qasem Soleimani's Death Anniversary

Iranian state TV reported that the two blasts were heard near Soleimani’s burial place but gave no details on what caused the explosion.

At least 103 people were killed, while 170 were injured after two successive explosions occurred  near the grave of slain Iranian general Qasem Soleimani as the country marked his death anniversary on Wednesday Iranian state TV reported.

Iran state media stated at least 103 people have been killed by explosions targeting commemoration for slain general, AFP reported.

Iran has termed the explosions as "terrorist act", reported AP.

Iran has declared day of mourning on Thursday after twin blasts, AFP reported. 

Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq.

"Huge explosion heard near Saheb al-Zaman Mosque" where the head of foreign operations of Iran's Revolutionary Guards is buried in Kerman in southern Iran, AFP reported.

It added: “A second explosion was heard near Saheb al-Zaman Mosque.”
Reuters quoting Reza Fallah, head of the Kerman province Red Crescent said: “Our rapid response teams are evacuating the injured... But there are waves of crowds blocking roads.”

Iranian state TV reported that the were heard near Soleimani’s burial place but gave no details on what caused the explosion. 

Several people were injured in a stampede after the explosions, it reported as the live broadcast showed thousands of mourners participating in the death anniversary, it said. 

Ambulances were also seen on site.

Nournews reported “several gas canisters exploded on the road leading to the cemetery” while a local official was quoted by Iranian state media as saying "it is not yet clear whether the explosions were caused by gas cylinders or a terrorist attack".
