Israel has claimed to allow five UN trucks carrying aid into Gaza, including baby food after imposing a blockade for 11-weeks, as reported by BBC. UN emergency relief coordinator Tom Fletcher had earlier warned that the allowed aid into Gaza falls short of what is needed.

The UN’s Humanitarian chief asserted the move to be “a drop in the ocean of what is urgently needed” as experts have warned of a looming famine in Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that his decision to allow small quantities of food into Gaza was due to increasing pressure from the US senators.

The food delivery and aid would be continued until the Israeli military and private companies set up hubs in the region to distribute aid, according to Netanyahu. The US-backed plan was rejected by the UN as Israel commences its operation to capture “all of Gaza”.

"We must not reach a situation of famine, both from a practical and a diplomatic standpoint,” claimed Netanyahu while responding to criticism of Israel’s moves.

While speaking about Israel’s offensive on Monday, he said that, “The fighting is intense, and we are making progress. We will take control of the entire Strip. We will not give up. But to succeed, we must act in a way that cannot be stopped.”

Israel has also ordered the evacuation of the Palestinian city of Khan Younis and is allegedly intensifying its offensive to put pressure on Hamas to release the hostages still held in Gaza.
