Israel on Sunday declared a daily pause in military activities in regions of Gaza and the establishment of new aid corridors, until further notice. The move follows after the mounting international pressure over the worsening hunger crisis in Gaza.

The Israeli military stated it would cease activity in Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah and Gaza City from 0700-1700 GMT until further notice, Reuters reported. These are the areas where it had not conducted ground operations since March, when Israel relaunched its offensive in Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) mentioned that it would maintain designated safe routes to support aid agencies in distributing food and other critical supplies throughout the Palestinian enclave.

The military said it would establish “humanitarian corridors” to ensure safe passage for United Nations convoys delivering critical aid to civilians in the region.

“The IDF will continue to support humanitarian efforts alongside ongoing maneuvering and offensive operations against terrorist organizations in Gaza, in order to protect Israeli civilians. The IDF is prepared to expand the scale of this activity as required,” IDF mentioned on X.
