Krishna Dushyant Rana - “Sustainable Growth Is Not About How Fast You Scale, But How Thoughtfully You Build”

Krishna Dushyant Rana, Chairman and Managing Director of Platinum Industries Ltd., has led one of the most significant transformations in India’s polymer additives space over the past decade. Taking over the reins in 2016 from his father, the late Shri Dushyant Rana, he has steered the company from a specialised polymer additives manufacturer into one of India’s leading players in its segment.

An alumnus of SP Jain Institute of Management Studies, Krishna’s leadership has been defined by a clear shift in direction from trading to manufacturing, from scale to capability, and from domestic relevance to global readiness. Under his guidance, Platinum Industries has scaled its production capacity from approximately 1,200 TPA to a projected 1,30,000 TPA by Q2 FY 2026, while building a strong foundation in research, global expansion, and quality-led growth.

In this conversation, Krishna reflects on leadership transitions, building scientific depth, expanding into global markets, and the discipline behind sustainable growth.

When you took over leadership in 2016, what was the fundamental shift you wanted to drive at Platinum?

Krishna Dushyant Rana:

The transformation we undertook was deliberate. We moved from trading toward manufacturing, from focusing on scale alone to building deeper capability, and from domestic relevance toward global readiness.

From the beginning, our belief has been that scale without substance rarely endures. What began as a focused operation gradually evolved into a technologically driven manufacturing enterprise, guided by the idea that quality systems, scientific rigor, and people-led processes must grow alongside production capacity.

How did you approach growth without compromising on stability?

Krishna Dushyant Rana:

Since 2016, we have scaled our production capacity from approximately 1,200 tonnes per annum to a projected consolidated capacity of nearly 1,30,000 tonnes per annum by Q2 FY 2026. Today, we are among the top three players in our segment in India.

However, every phase of expansion was supported by deliberate investments in infrastructure, safety systems, laboratory capabilities, and governance frameworks. The focus has always been on building systems that support long-term growth, rather than chasing short-term volume.

Your journey reflects a strong emphasis on R&D. How did you build that scientific depth within the organisation?

Krishna Dushyant Rana:

Research and development has been a defining pillar of our journey. Our recognition by the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR) reflects years of sustained work in polymer chemistry, formulation science, and application-specific innovation.

A key milestone for us was receiving a patent from the Government of India for a stabilizer composition for thermostable chlorinated vinyl chloride resin compositions. That moment marked our transition from being purely a manufacturer to becoming a solution developer.

To further strengthen this direction, we brought in Dr. Frank Abraham as Global Director, Research & Development. His role is to advance our formulation expertise and accelerate our transition toward performance-driven additive technologies.

You’ve actively engaged with global markets and industry platforms. How have these interactions shaped your growth strategy?

Krishna Dushyant Rana:

Our participation in international platforms has always been about dialogue rather than visibility alone.

We have been part of and sponsored key global forums such as PLASTEX 2026 in Egypt, PlastIndia 2026, Vinyl India, K-Fair in Germany, and ArabPlast in Dubai. These platforms allow us to engage directly with customers, industry stakeholders, and policymakers, while understanding emerging applications and regulatory shifts.

For instance, at PlastIndia, we launched our oleo chemicals range, Platilub, marking our entry into a strategically aligned product vertical. These interactions help us shape our product roadmap based on real market needs.

Quality, compliance, and now global recognition seem to be consistent themes in your journey. How do you view certifications and recognitions?

Krishna Dushyant Rana:

For us, certifications and recognitions are not endpoints. They are outcomes of disciplined systems, consistent processes, and a long-term commitment to quality.

Our TÜV Nord ISO 9001:2015 certification validates the robustness of our quality management systems across procurement, production, and delivery. The NSF 533 certification for CPVC UniPack marked an important milestone, ensuring that materials used in potable water systems do not leach harmful substances into drinking water.

Beyond product certifications, our global engagement has also been recognised through our Star Export House status, which acknowledges consistent export performance and our contribution to India’s growing presence in international trade.

Together, these recognitions reinforce a principle we strongly believe in that quality must be built into intent, formulation, and execution.

Platinum’s expansion into Egypt marks a significant step in your global journey. What strategic role does this play?

Krishna Dushyant Rana:

Our expansion into Egypt is not just about exports. We are in advanced stages of establishing a modern, automated manufacturing facility with a planned capacity of up to 70,000 tonnes per annum.

This facility reflects the same philosophy we follow at our fully automated plant in Palghar, where efficiency, safety systems, and quality controls are deeply integrated into production.

Egypt’s geographic position and industrial ecosystem align with our strategy of building locally while serving global markets with international benchmarks.

You’ve also been recognised in global and diplomatic forums. What do such moments represent for you as a leader?

Krishna Dushyant Rana:

One of the more meaningful moments was being invited by the Commerce Wing of the Indian Embassy in Egypt to attend the 77th Republic Day celebrations.

The recognition of Platinum within a segment themed “Pillars of India–Egypt Commercial Partnership” highlighted something important, that manufacturing excellence also carries the responsibility of representing trust, reliability, and the values associated with Indian enterprise globally.

For us, it was a moment of reflection on how disciplined growth and consistency build credibility over time.

As you look ahead, what will define the next phase of your journey?

Krishna Dushyant Rana:

Our priorities remain anchored in the same fundamentals that shaped our journey: deeper R&D engagement, responsible capacity expansion, global compliance, and partnerships built on trust rather than transactions.
