How SCMHRD Built A Legacy Of Academic Excellence And Career Success

Established in 1993, SCMHRD’s journey spans academic expansion, international accreditations, industry engagement, placement outcomes and the integration of AI into management education.

In Indian management education, reputations take decades to build and moments to lose. Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development (SCMHRD) has spent more than thirty years building its reputation, and its academic programmes, international accreditation, industry relationships and placement records reflect that journey.

A Vision Set In 1993

SCMHRD was established in July 1993 by the Symbiosis Society to offer an autonomous management science programme. The founding belief was that managers need strong people skills alongside technical knowledge, an idea reflected in the institute’s name. In 2006, it became a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), enabling it to offer postgraduate degrees.

Growing With The Market

The institute has continued to evolve with the Indian economy. Alongside its flagship M.B.A., it introduced an M.B.A. in Business Analytics in 2017 and developed an M.B.A. in Infrastructure Development and Management. Its M.B.A. (Executive) programme helps working professionals strengthen their managerial capabilities while continuing their careers. Together, these programmes reflect the changing priorities of Indian business: data-driven decision-making, large-scale infrastructure development and continuous professional learning.

A Global Benchmark

In 2020, SCMHRD became the first business school in Pune to earn accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). It secured AACSB reaccreditation in February 2025, reaffirming its commitment to academic quality, faculty development and continuous improvement.

SCMHRD’s M.B.A. programme also received National Board of Accreditation (NBA) accreditation in 2024. The institute is part of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), which holds an A++ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has also featured among India’s leading management institutes in national rankings and gained international recognition through the Financial Times Masters in Management rankings.

Where Classroom Meets Corporate India

The institute’s career record rests on a close relationship with industry. Over the last two placement cycles, SCMHRD has shown consistent placement outcomes, alongside improvements in its highest and average reported packages.

2025: The M.B.A. batch recorded a highest package of ₹35.90 lakh per annum, an average of ₹21.47 lakh and a median of ₹20 lakh, with more than 118 recruiters participating.

2026: The M.B.A. batch recorded a highest package of ₹38 lakh per annum, an average of ₹21.90 lakh and a median of ₹20 lakh, with more than 110 recruiters participating.

Recruiters represent sectors including consulting, banking and financial services, technology, FMCG, manufacturing and e-commerce. Across human resources, marketing, finance, operations and analytics, graduates are prepared to understand business challenges across functions rather than within a single specialisation.

Summer internships reinforce this approach. The institute has reported a highest stipend of ₹4.50 lakh and an average of ₹2.37 lakh for a recent cycle, giving students exposure to organisational realities well before final placements.

Learning Beyond The Lecture Hall

SCMHRD’s campus is located in Hinjewadi, Pune’s prominent technology and corporate hub, close to businesses that shape India’s modern economy. Case discussions, live projects, industry interactions, business simulations and student-led initiatives complement classroom teaching, helping students develop the judgement, adaptability and confidence expected of management professionals.

Accelerating Into The AI Era

SCMHRD has rapidly transformed into an AI-enabled management institution in 2026. It has built an ecosystem of more than 30 customised GPTs and AI-powered applications spanning classroom learning, business simulations, assessments, placement preparation, faculty support and academic administration. Its emerging AI Lab, AI-driven CEO decision-making simulations and intelligent learning companions reflect a shift from teaching artificial intelligence to integrating it into management education. Many of these solutions are developed in-house, allowing faster experimentation and greater flexibility. The aim is to prepare students to work alongside intelligent systems while strengthening critical thinking, creativity, ethical judgement and leadership. “Our pedagogy is simple: Learn, understand, apply knowledge through AI-powered platforms, and develop real-world solutions. Seek industry feedback, incorporate those insights, and repeat the process until success is achieved. We believe education is not merely about acquiring knowledge but about continuously applying, refining, and transforming it into meaningful outcomes.”

The Legacy Ahead

An institution’s legacy lies not only in its history but in the opportunities it creates and its ability to stay relevant. SCMHRD’s alumni now work across industries and at varying levels of leadership, reflecting its long-standing emphasis on academic learning, professional development and industry engagement.

As employers seek managers who combine analytical depth, adaptability, technological understanding and people leadership, SCMHRD’s human-centred approach remains relevant. Its growing emphasis on artificial intelligence and experiential learning prepares students for a business environment where technology and human judgement must work together.

SCMHRD’s development over more than three decades reflects its institutional growth, expansion of academic programmes, international recognition and placement record. It continues to build on its established legacy while adapting its management education approach to evolving business and societal needs.
