The World Health Organization rightly emphasises that healthy ageing is not merely the absence of disease but the ability to maintain functional capacity, independence, and overall well-being throughout life. The Indian knowledge system views ageing as a Swabhava Vikara—a natural and inevitable process. Healthy ageing, therefore, is about enabling individuals to remain physically active, mentally resilient, socially engaged, and functionally independent throughout life. Its key pillars include a balanced and nutritious diet (Ahara), a healthy daily routine (Vihara), regular yoga and physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management, and preventive healthcare. Together, these practices promote longevity, improve quality of life, and help people age with dignity and vitality.
