Tamil Film Producer K Rajan Dies By Suicide At 85 In Chennai; Vishal, Khushbu Sundar Mourn His Demise

Veteran Tamil film producer K Rajan died at the age of 85 in Chennai. He reportedly committed suicide on Sunday (May 17). The reason behind his death is not known yet. However, the investigation is currently underway. The Tamil industry has mourned the sudden demise of K Rajan.

Celebs pay tribute to K Rajan

Actor-politician Khushbu Sundar took to X (formerly Twitter) to offer condolences. She wrote, "Terrible news. Deeply shocked to hear about the demise of our beloved member of the film fraternity, producer K Rajan sir. His passing away by suicide is extremely saddening. He was a very respectful person and a man who never hesitated to call a spade a spade. This is very upsetting. May his soul rest in peace (sic)."

R Sarath Kumar, expressing grief, wrote, "The tragic incident of Mr. K. Rajan, a renowned producer in the Tamil film industry, taking his own life has caused immense shock and sorrow. From 1980 onwards, the unexpected end of this veteran producer, who had firmly established himself in Tamil cinema, will be a great loss to the Tamil film world. I convey my deepest condolences to his family, who are grieving his passing, as well as to his relatives, friends, and the entire Tamil film fraternity. I pray for the peaceful repose of his soul (sic)."

K Rajan death reason

According to reports in several outlets, a senior City police official said that the film producer was returning to his hotel in his car when he asked the driver to stop on the bridge and jumped into the river. Rajan was separated from his family and was staying at a private hotel, the police officer said.

Who was K Rajan?

K Rajan entered Tamil cinema as a producer with Brammacharigal in 1983. He produced films such as Thangamana Thangachi, Chinna Poovai Killathe, Doubles, Aval Paavam and Ninaikatha Naalillai.

Apart from producing films, Rajan also acted in several Tamil films such as Michael Raj, Sonthakkaran, Veettoda Mappillai, Paambhu Sattai, Thunivu and Bakasuran.

He also directed films like Namma Ooru Mariamma and Unarchigal.

Rajan is survived by his son, Prabhukanth.
