Renowned Kannada actor-producer Dileep Raj passed away this morning. He was 47. Known for films like Milana and serials such as Hitler Kalyana and Janani, Dileep was also a theatre artist, producer and dubbing artiste.

According to family members, Dileep Raj died due to a massive heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors failed to save him, reported NDTV.

Who was Dileep Raj?

Born in Bengaluru, Dileep Raj starred as a lead actor in Boy Friend (2005).

Dileep gained popularity after working with Puneeth Rajkumar in the 2007 film Milana, where he played the antagonist. U-Turn, Krishna LeelaNan Life AlliNanna PrakaraTonyBarfiOrchestra Mysuru, and Ambi Ning Vayassaytho are some of his notable works.

He also explored production and backed TV serials under his banner, DR Creations.

Dileep was a popular face in the Kannada entertainment industry as he worked in films, serials, theatre and did dubbing.

He started from the theatre and trained and performed with groups like Nataranga and Drishti before entering the television and film worlds.

His early television appearances were in Kambada Mane and Janani, where he co-starred with veteran actress Bharti Vishnuvardhan.

Ardha Satya, Rangoli, Mangalya, Malebillu, Preetigaagi and Rathasapthami are his other popular Kannada serials.

Also known for his dubbing work, he lent his voice to actor Chetan Kumar in Aa Dinagalu.

In his career, Dileep appeared in over 20 films. But he never disassociated himself from the theatre while working in films and on television.

Following the news of Dileep Raj's death, several personalities from the Kannada television and film industry offered condolences on social media.

Dileep Raj is survived by his wife and two daughters.
