Taking to his Instagram Stories, Pritam issued a statement on copying allegations as he wrote, “Every single one of my song releases comes with a set of self-appointed music detectives, who have created a new genre called ‘imaginary similarities’. Same people, same ‘inspired by’ thesis.. Boss, at this point, you are my unpaid PR team..I just want to say guys, NOT NICE. (sic)”

Cocktail 2’s song “Mashooqa” has been composed by Pritam, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Raghav Chaitanya and Mahmood Ruaa Kayy have crooned it with the Italian parts written and performed by Mahmood. The song features Kriti Sanon and Shahid Kapoor, showing their characters travelling together and falling in love.

How Cocktail 2 song controversy started

The controversy started when a Reddit user recently shared videos from the Cocktail 2 song with the original track, pointing out the similarities between the tunes. Following this, many started accusing Pritam of "stealing/copying."

The original Neapolitan song was released in 1993, and it was from the album Le Origini Vol. 2.

About Cocktail 2

Directed by Homi Adajania and backed by Dinesh Vijan, it is a spiritual sequel to the 2012 blockbuster. Also starring Rashmika Mandanna, the movie will debut in cinemas on June 19.
