Salman Khan starrer Sikandar was one of the highly-anticipated movies of the year. It reportedly opened at Rs 26 crore, which was less than Salman's previous releases. The movie witnessed significant drop in its collections and even struggled to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. However, it managed to rake in Rs 103.45 crore (lifetime haul), as per reports. Even the star presence couldn't save the movie. Some claimed that script was too weak which failed to impress the audience. Khan's performance also left many disappointed.

Now, after four months of its release, director AR Murugadoss has opened up about the box office failure of Sikandar. He also shared his opinion on what might have gone wrong with the film.

AR Murugadoss on Sikandar's failure

Murugadoss spoke about Sikandar while promoting his upcoming film, Madharaasi.

He said, "When we make films in our mother tongue, it gives us strength. We know what is happening here. Today there’s a trend going and suddenly the audience gets connected with that trend. When we shift language, we don’t know what the youngsters are enjoying in that language. All we need is a script to believe it."

Blames language barrier

The filmmaker also said that for once, he can take up Telugu films, but Hindi may not work for them because after they write the script, it is translated to English, and then again translated in Hindi. "We can only guess what they are saying, but we are exactly not sure about what is happening. When you make film in an unknown language and place, it feels like you are handicapped. It is like you don’t have hands. I strongly believe our strength depends on where and the culture we belong to," he added.

For the unversed, Murugadoss' 2008 Hindi film Ghajini with Aamir Khan was a blockbuster.

Alongside Salman, Sikandar also starred Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Babbar, and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles.
