Created by Geek Pictures India as an India-Japan creative collaboration, the original magical-girl anime follows five schoolgirls who are chosen to become supernatural warriors while dealing with the far more ordinary problems of growing up.
The project was formally unveiled at Anime India Mumbai 2026, which ran from August 28 to 30. Geek Pictures introduced the property through a first-look experience and merchandise giveaways, giving fans their first proper look at what the studio describes as India's Magical Sisterhood.
Panchsheela Anime introduces five Indian magical girls
The story centres on Mezi, Kaya, Amba, Zoonie and Tara, five girls from different parts of India. When the ancient darkness Daki Daayan escapes after centuries of imprisonment, they are chosen as the Panchsheela, with each girl embodying the power of a sacred chakra.
The official character profiles add more detail to the group. Mezi represents the Heart chakra and can communicate with animals, while Kaya is the healer associated with the Root chakra. Amba is a physically powerful warrior associated with the Solar Plexus chakra. Zoonie is a clairvoyant strategist representing the Third Eye, while Tara is a scholar with photographic memory and the Crown chakra. Each girl is paired with an animal companion, including a parrot, an elephant, a bull, a squirrel, and a cat.
Geek Pictures' India-Japan magical girl collaboration
The girls will be guided by Guru Garu and their animal companions as they fight Negatives, people transformed by Daki Daayan into an army of destruction. At the same time, the story will deal with friendship, heartbreak, homework and hostel life.
Geek Pictures co-founder and director Arjun Aggarwal said the project was created around heroines who feel distinctly Indian, combining the country's diversity and everyday realities with Japanese character-driven animation. The statement was made as Panchsheela was introduced at Anime India 2026.

As of September 8, no release date or streaming platform has been announced for Panchsheela. The official website currently positions it as a new magical-girl franchise rather than announcing a specific anime release schedule.
