Reconnecting With The Past, Building For The Future: CM Majhi Presents 2-Year Report Card Of Odisha’s BJP Government

The Mohan Majhi-led Odisha government marked two years, highlighting cultural revival, over ₹20L crore in investment proposals, and a historic announcement of free education from KG to PG.

Bhubaneswar: Marking a monumental milestone in the state’s political landscape, the Mohan Charan Majhi-led government in Odisha has completed two successful years in office. Sweeping into power in 2024 and ending a 24-year political era, the "double-engine government" has presented an extensive report card showcasing a strategic balance between deep cultural revival and massive industrial modernization.

Addressing a packed press conference in Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a bold developmental blueprint. Over the last two years, his administration has rolled out a staggering 121 new schemes and welfare initiatives tailored to align with the dual visions of 'Samruddha Odisha-2036' and 'Viksit Bharat-2047'.

The 'Odia Asmita' Resurgence: Honoring the Past

The Majhi administration has heavily prioritised structural cultural preservation, asserting that future progress must stand on the foundation of the state's historical roots.

Driven by the 'Odia Asmita' initiative, the government set up a dedicated Rs. 200 crore corpus fund aimed squarely at promoting regional language, art, and local heritage. This ethos was initially signalled within days of the BJP cabinet taking oath, notably marked by the long-requested reopening of all four gates of the iconic Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Furthermore, the launch of the global 'Think India, Think Odisha' branding strategy is seeking to transition the state from a lesser-known travel spot into a competitive, world-class hub for heritage, coastal, and eco-tourism.

Free Education and Major Welfare Push

In an unprecedented announcement marking the two-year milestone, CM Majhi declared that education from Kindergarten to Postgraduate levels (“KG to PG”) will be made completely free and universal across government colleges and universities.

"Probably Odisha is the first state in the country to make such a provision in the education sector," Majhi stated, noting it will heavily insulate economically backward scholars and female students from financial constraints.

To augment this massive education drive, the state has already recruited 26,000 teachers and is preparing to onboard an additional 45,000 instructors, alongside setting up four new state universities.

Economic Acceleration: An Emerging Electronic & Industrial Hub

On the industrial front, the Majhi administration has aggressively shifted gears to unlock Odisha’s manufacturing and tech potential. Anchored by the flagship Utkarsh Odisha initiative, the state has reportedly attracted focus investment proposals valued at nearly Rs. 20 lakh crore.

Through the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA), 148 mega-projects have either been grounded or inaugurated, drawing over Rs. 2.84 lakh crore in immediate capital and setting up a pipeline for over 2.37 lakh structural jobs. Simultaneously, the administration is steering the state into a premier electronics manufacturing destination.

Mega Infrastructure Upgrades

This economic boom is heavily supported by unprecedented central and state infrastructure investments.

  • Highways & Expressways: More than 230 national highway projects worth Rs. 80,000 crore are currently underway, including critical expressways connecting northern and southern Odisha.

  • Rail Connectivity: Bolstered by a massive annual central railway budget allocation exceeding Rs. 10,900 crore, total railway electrification has reached 100%, with 59 regional stations undergoing modernisation under the Amrit Bharat Station initiative.

As the administration heads into its third year, the state government plans to host a massive public outreach campaign running from mid-to-late June. Exhibitions, presentations, and town halls across every district will display the performance report card directly to grassroots citizens, consolidating public trust for the road ahead.
