Outdated Leaders Searching For Political Revival In Ayodhya – Alok Chandra

Whenever a major issue gains momentum in Indian politics, leaders who have faded from the media spotlight and been relegated to the political margins suddenly begin to see renewed hope. The latest example is the alleged theft of offerings in Ayodhya. While investigating agencies are carrying out their work on this highly sensitive matter involving faith, devotion, and security, certain 'outdated' political faces have also become active. These are leaders who have long lost their footing in mainstream politics. It appears that, for them, this incident is less a matter of public concern and more a golden opportunity to make themselves politically relevant once again.

Restlessness For A 'Comeback' Under The Guise Of An Issue

Politics has a ruthless rule: 'Jo dikhta hai vo bikta hai'. For leaders who have been repeatedly rejected by the electorate or sidelined within their own parties, a name like Ayodhya serves as a powerful 'loudspeaker'. To secure space in television debates and trend on social media, such leaders are making sharp and controversial statements about this incident. By provoking the sentiments of the faithful or pretending to stand with them, these leaders are desperately trying to regain their lost credibility. In the process, however, they seem to overlook the fact that their statements are trampling upon the faith of crores of Sanatan Dharma followers.

Genuine Concern Or Merely A Photo Opportunity?

It is well known that whenever such an issue arises, organisations working on the ground and current public representatives demand legal and administrative action, which is indeed underway. The SIT constituted by the Yogi Government is investigating the matter. Several accused have already been sent to jail, and the case has also reached the Supreme Court. However, the approach of these isolated and outdated leaders is somewhat different. Their focus appears to be less on finding a solution and more on generating photographs from protests, holding press conferences, and unleashing a barrage of statements on social media platforms. The sentiments of crores of people are deeply connected with Ayodhya and the Ram Mandir. In such circumstances, engaging in politics over this sensitive issue can be described as nothing but an attempt to exploit public emotions.

The Public Has Become 'Smart'

These leaders perhaps mistakenly believe that the public is unable to understand their 'suddenly awakened' devotion towards Ayodhya or Bhagwan Shri Ram. Today's voter is highly aware. The public clearly understands why leaders who remain absent during the people's moments of joy and hardship, and who maintain silence on serious issues that undermine nationalism, suddenly appear before television cameras the moment a controversy emerges.

The alleged theft of offerings is undoubtedly an offence under the law, and those responsible must receive strict punishment. However, using this issue as a pretext to malign Ayodhya Dham and hurt the sentiments and faith of crores of Ram devotees reflects the intellectual bankruptcy of those leaders who no longer have any concrete vision or policy to present before the people and who are mistakenly treating the offerings theft case as their political relaunch pad.

For these leaders, who have become irrelevant to the overwhelming majority of the public, the Ayodhya incident may indeed appear to be a form of 'political Sanjeevani'. However, those who build castles on sand can never sustain durable politics. The public understands the difference between spectacle and genuine public concern. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for those leaders who are shedding crocodile tears over this issue in an attempt to regain their political footing. History, after all, is filled with examples of those who toyed with public faith and emotions only to find themselves confined to the pages of history.
