The Yogi government has announced an increase in honoraria for Anganwadi workers and helpers, together with health protection. The honourarium has been raised to ₹12,000 for workers and ₹6,000 for helpers, and cashless treatment of up to ₹5 lakh has been declared.
The change matters because Anganwadi workers and helpers are the faces through whom the government’s schemes reach the ground—schemes that touch children, women and nutrition. Extending health security to their families widens the social security net itself.
Outsourced Work Recast as a Question of Security, Not Merely of Wage
The longest-standing difficulty has confronted outsourced employees. Their anxiety has never been confined to pay. It has included the stability of the job and the security of the years ahead. Through the Uttar Pradesh Outsource Service Corporation—UPCOS—the Yogi government has moved to make that arrangement more transparent and more secure.
The government’s focus is not limited to the process of recruitment. The attempt is to write better service conditions, remuneration, social security and health-related benefits into the structure of the system itself.
The employee’s question, therefore, is no longer only what today’s salary will be. It is also how treatment will be met if illness comes, what will become of the family in the event of an accident, and how secure the future of the job itself will be.

The most important feature of these decisions is that their effect does not stop at the worker. A health cover means protection for the household. An increase in honourarium means a firmer domestic economy. Security of employment means a reduction in uncertainty about the years ahead.
To describe these measures merely as employee-welfare announcements is therefore to diminish their reach. They are an attempt to extend protection to the class that runs the governmental machinery from day to day, yet has long lived with economic and social insecurity of its own.
