Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi At The 71st Foundation Day Celebration Of Odisha Mining Corporation

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today stated that the global demand for raw materials such as iron ore, bauxite, and chromite is increasing rapidly. In this context, the Odisha Mining Corporation is continuously meeting the growing demand while playing a crucial role in the industrialization and economic development of the state. He made these remarks while attending the 71st Foundation Day celebration of OMC as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering at the Lok Seva Bhawan Convention Centre, the Chief Minister said that OMC, which began its journey in the 1960s with a turnover of just ₹1 crore, has achieved a business turnover of ₹25,000 crore in the financial year 2025–26. Along with this, the corporation has created a record by producing 45 million tonnes of minerals, establishing itself as one of the country’s leading mining organizations.

He further said that the time has now come for OMC to expand its operational footprint beyond Odisha and initiate mining-based activities in other states of the country. He also pointed out that Odisha possesses abundant raw material reserves and advised OMC to focus not only on mining activities but also on industrial development.

The Chief Minister noted that over the past seven decades, OMC has established itself not merely as a business enterprise but as a major pillar of Odisha’s economic growth. The corporation has consistently contributed a significant share of its profits to the state government. By responsibly utilizing the state’s valuable mineral resources, OMC has made remarkable contributions to the prosperity of both Odisha and the nation.

He highlighted that OMC has successfully conducted pilot plant trials for extracting Platinum Group Elements (PGE) from the Bangur Chromite Mines in Keonjhar district. This initiative will enable OMC to play a vital role in supplying essential metals required for clean energy, electronics, and advanced automobile manufacturing industries in Odisha. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that OMC would make a significant contribution towards realizing the vision of a prosperous Odisha by 2036.

He also stated that OMC has been continuously working towards environmental protection, safe mining operations, and the holistic development of mining regions. Through various CSR initiatives, the corporation has brought positive changes in mining areas by implementing programs related to education, healthcare, drinking water, women’s empowerment, sports, and infrastructure development. He advised the corporation to engage more local residents in mining activities alongside mechanization, which would further strengthen local livelihoods.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated the permanent campus of the newly built Odisha Mining Adarsha Vidyalaya at Kaliapani, flagged off eight advanced Basic Life Support ambulances for mining area residents, launched an Integrated Command and Monitoring Centre, and introduced “O-Swasthya,” a digital healthcare management system. He also felicitated the best-performing mines and regions.

Speaking on the occasion, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary D. K. Singh acknowledged OMC’s exceptional contribution to the growth of Odisha’s industrial sector and emphasized the need to further enhance the utility of OMC-operated mines for the development of the state and the country.
