For authentic Cape Malay in the Bo-Kaap area, try the Noon Gun Tea Room and
Restaurant (+27-214240529) or the more highly rated Biesmiellah ( or the Bo-Kaap Kombuis ( where old Cape Malay and Cape Dutch songs are sung on some nights.
For a more elaborate meal, try the Gold Restaurant (, which does a fifteen-course tasting safari which includes Cape Malay and other African cuisine.

The iconic afternoon tea at the luxurious Mount Nelson Hotel ( is a meal in itself.
Try Braai at the House of Meat (, which serves a meat buffet braai-ed on an open fire. Prices are in the mid range.

The drink
