ITTF World Youth Championships 2023: Jennifer Varghese, Divyanshi Bhowmick Bag India's First-Ever Silver Medal At Table Tennis Event

The Indian under-15 girls' doubles pair of Jennifer Varghese and Divyanshi Bhowmick won the country's first-ever silver medal at the World Youth TT Championships late on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Jennifer and Divyanshi lost the summit clash by a 1-3 margin, with the scoreline reading 5-11, 11-8, 4-11, 2-11. The Indians could only manage to win one set as the Japanese pair called the shots all through the match.

Earlier, the Jennifer-Divyanshi pair had produced exceptional teamwork in the semifinal to down the French-Chinese duo of Leana Hochart and Nina Guo Zheng 3-0, beating them 14-12, 11-9, 11-8 on Friday night.

Jennifer had also combined with R. Abhinandan in the under-15 mixed doubles category to claim a bronze medal, also a first for India. India had claimed the youth girls under-19 bronze medal in the team events, scoring an upset win over Egypt in the quarter-finals a few days ago.
