Copa Libertadores 2022: Favourites River Plate, Boca Juniors Crash Out - In Pics

Defending champions Palmeiras of Brazil reached the quarter-finals of Copa Libertadores 2022 with a 3-0, 5-0 win over Cerro Porteno of Paraguay, but two Argentinian giants -- River Plate and Boca Juniors -- were dumped out of the South American club football's biggest tournament. Boca Juniors were defeated by Brazil's Corinthians on penalties after the second leg match also ended in a goalless draw. River Plate lost to fellow Argentinian side Velez Sarsfield 0-1 (first leg). For the first time in the history of the tournament, teams only from the two countries (Argentina and Brazil) will compete the quarter-finals. Other teams in the last-eight are: Athletico Paranaense (Brazil), Flamengo (Brazil), Talleres (Argentina), Atletico Mineiro (Brazil); and the winners of Fortaleza (Brazil) vs Estudiantes (Argentina).
