It makes better business sense to have a show at a smaller venue. The cost comes to just Rs 1-2 lakh compared to Rs 10-12 lakh at a five-star hotel.
With a smaller, more exclusive show, designers can focus on people who can actually influence sales through purchases or recommendations.
Pret-a-porter, the current flavour of the season (many more designers have pret lines), is more suited to smaller shows.
Designers are now channelling their resources into other related businesses like wedding planning.
