- There are only 927 girl children for every 1,000 boys in 0-6 age group now. It was 945 in 1991.
- Girl children are fewer in urban India as compared to the rural parts. For 1,000 males in the 0-6 age group, there are 934 girls in our villages, and only 903 in towns and cities.
- Some of our most prosperous states (listed below) have been most cruel to the girl child, and the prejudice is at its worst in the urban parts.
