R Subbalakshmi left for her heavenly abode a little while ago. The famous Malayalam actress and musician was known for the numerous roles of a grandmother in various Malayalam movies. She was just 87 when she died. R Subbalakshmi is the mother of noted actress and dancer Thara Kalyan.
R Subbalakshmi has done numerous roles in films like ‘Kalyanaraman’, ‘Nandanam’, ‘Pandippada’, ‘CID Moosa’, ‘Thilakkam’ and many others. She has acted in over 75 films in different film industries over the years. She was recently seen in the Tamil blockbuster ‘Beast’ starring Vijay in the lead. She was also seen in ‘Ye Maaya Chesave’ starring Naga Chaitanya. Not just in the southern film industries, she even played smaller parts in many Hindi films as well.

Before she started her acting career in her 60s, she was a popular music and dance instructor as well. Not just that, she worked with All India Radio since 1951, and she was the first female music composer for the radio station.
Her death has left a huge void in the hearts of billions of her fans. May her soul rest in peace.
