We’ve been halfway through 2023, and it is undoubtedly the women reigning the Indian Box office with their dumdaar roles and mind-blowing performances. Be it Deepika Padukone in the record-breaking blockbuster ‘Pathaan’ or the upcoming ‘Jawan’ having a gang of women, or Marvel Studios’ next release ‘The Marvels’ featuring not one but three female superheroes, uniting forces to save the world – every film is just taking the women power a notch higher than the other.

Here is a few films that have already been released or are upcoming releases that prove that 2023 is the year of compelling women characters and their stories ruling the box-office.

Jawan

Shah Rukh Khan is here with his gang of girls in ‘Jawan’, the trailer of which was released today. The film comes with a huge expectation as it comes right after SRK’s blockbuster ‘Pathaan’. The film also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Deepika Padukone and many others. Shah Rukh Khan’s bald look is getting a lot of appreciation. Also, he has 3-4 different looks which audiences are waiting for with bated breath to know what they all come out to be onscreen.

‘The Marvels’

All set to light up our Diwali this year is the dazzling and powerful trio of The Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Ms Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) whose unexpected power mix-up brings them together to fight evil forces. Interestingly, even the powerful Kree villain of the film is Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), a powerful female ruler who is hell bent on destroying Captain Marvel. It will be a truly spectacular sight to watch these strong women clash forces in The Marvel Studios’ latest offering! Marvel Studios India’s ‘The Marvels’ hits Indian theatres this Diwali in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

‘Barbie’

The highly anticipated Greta Gerwig film is making headlines for its unique storyline and exceptionally woke storytelling, where women are unquestionably ruling the film, and with supportive Kens behind them! Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer, ‘Barbie’ is amongst 2023’s biggest hits and has women ruling the screen.

‘Mrs. Chatterjee Vs. Norway’

Known for her applause-worthy roles, Rani Mukherjee Chopra starred in the critically acclaimed film based on real-life events. Her portrayal of Debika Chatterjee, a mother who fights against the Norway government for her children, reaffirmed her acting prowess and exceptional talent as an artist.

‘Pathaan’

Opening the year with a bang in January, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham starrer ‘Pathaan’ featured a spectacular action thriller with strong characters. Padukone as Rubina especially stole the screen, an undercover agent whose mysterious appeal made her character an unforgettable one. And her mind-blowing action sequences and stunts that keep you hooked to the screen.
