Wimbledon 2023: Carlos Alcaraz Hopes To Face Novak Djokovic In Final

Alcaraz, who lost to Djokovic in French Open semi-finals last month, hopes that he can meet the veteran once again, as he feels his hard-earned wins have given him a lot of confidence.

Carlos Alcaraz, Spain's young tennis star and World No. 1, expressed happiness after escaping a tough challenge from Nicholas Jarry on Saturday at the Wimbledon championships. He added that he would like to face Novak Djokovic in the final of the grass-court Grand Slam tournament.

Alcaraz had to work hard to earn his victory in four sets against Jarry. Playing on Centre Court under the roof, the Spaniard registered his 6-3, 7-6 (6), 6-3, 7-5 win in a match that lasted three hours and 56 minutes.

During the post-match conference, Alcaraz said, "The match gave me a lot of confidence today. I really feel comfortable on that court. I feel [I have] a lot of confidence right now."

Alcaraz entered the All England Club tournament seeded number 1. Should he meet Djokovic in the final, the No. 1 ranking will be up for grabs, too. However, on his route to the final, he must defeat Matteo Berrettini in the next round, who won his match against Alexander Zverev 6-3. 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).

"It is going to be a really tough one. But obviously, my dream is to play a final here. Even better if it is Novak," he said.

In last year's Wimbledon, Alcaraz could not go past the fourth round, suffering a defeat at the hands of Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic, who beat Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round, will meet Polish player Hubert Hurkacz next.
