It will be telecast on the Sony Sports Network TV channels in the country.
Novak Djokovic and Valentin Royer arrive on court to loud cheers, for different reasons. Djokovic, of course for his stature and for being arguably the greatest men's player of all time, and Royer for being French! The players are warming up and the first set is about to begin.
We are underway at Court Philippe-Chatrier. Djokovic serves first, and holds with utmost ease. The Serbian legend simply racks up four straight points to make an ideal start to the match.
The first set is on serve so far, at 2-2. The Frenchman has held his own, while Novak has had no troubles either. It all depends on who breaks first now.
A marathon ninth game sees Royer clinging on for a long time, before Djokovic breaks free and takes the first set 6-3. The Serbian struggling a bit in the sultry conditions, and that's something the Frenchman could capitalize on in the coming sets.
Djokovic breaks early in the second and consolidates it to take a 3-1 lead in the second set. He is still having trouble while serving into the sun and making a huge show of it, but the Serbian is keeping things in control all the same.
Djokovic serves out the second set without a bother, taking it 6-2 to move one set away from a breezy third-round entry. As for his opponent Royer, he needs something akin to a miracle to turn the match around from here.
Royer is trying to push the 39-year-old as much as he can, with some spirited groundstrokes and retrieving. But he is yet to get rewards for it, as Djokovic stays unbroken in the match and the third set stands level at 2-2.
Djokovic finds the elusive break in the seventh game, and leads 4-3. He is serving now to make it 5-3 in the third set, which would put him on the verge of victory.
Royer finally manages to break Djokovic's service in the nick of time, and the frustrated Serbian is unable to retaliate strongly enough to avoid a tiebreak. It is 6-6 and time for a tiebreak to decide whether this match will see a fourth set.
Royer's persistence pays off! He staves off a match point before clinching the tiebreak 9-7 and pushing the match into a fourth set. Djokovic was up to his antics when play wasn't going his way, and it remains to be seen how the third set's outcome affects the Serbian.
The battle has grown intense in the past 20 minutes or so. The home crowd is especially buoyed after Royer stood firm in the tiebreak, and the fourth set has an edge to it. Djokovic is not backing down either, as he unfurls a spectacular passing shot to dazzle one and all. It's on serve at 2-1 in the fourth set.
As is his wont, Djokovic forges a way forward, and after breaking Royer to go 5-3 up, he is now serving for the match.
The Gladiator battles through! After a terrific match that tested both players' resolve, patience and stamina, it is the 39-year-old who prevails 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (9), 6-3 and advances to the Roland Garros third round. Djokovic will next face the winner of the second-round match between Joao Fonseca and Dino Prizmic.
