The FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup 2025 is being hosted at the Batumi Sports Palace in Georgia between 5 July and 29 July 2025. The tournament features 107 players from 46 federations participating in a gruelling knockout contest over three weeks.

The players will be competing for a total prize pool of USD 691,250. The winner will receive USD 50,000 from the pool. However, the most important prize on offer is three spots in the Women’s Candidates Tournament 2026.

The tournament will follow the classical World Cup structure – two classical games per round, featuring progressively faster tie-breaks (rapid and blitz). Each player will have 90 minutes from the start and a 30-minute increment from move 40, plus a 30-second increment from the first move.

The tournament will feature 17 of the world’s top 20 women chess players, including the top three seeds from China – Lei Tingjie, Zhu Jiner, and Tan Zhongyi. Defending champion Alexandra Goryachkina has been seeded sixth, having already secured her place for the Candidates through the Grand Prix circuit.

Other key players include Norway Chess 2024 winner Anna Muzychuk, last year’s World Cup winner Nurgyul Salimova, and Cairns Cup 2025 champion Carissa Yip.
