Hosts South Africa won the toss and elected to field first on a rain-hit Day 1 of the Centurion Test - a decision that, in retrospect, proved wise. Led by Kagiso Rabada's sensational five-wicket haul, the Proteas restricted India to 208 for the loss of eight wickets by Stumps on Day 1 and will be hoping to claim the remaining two early on Day 2 before commencing their assault on the Indian score. India, though, will have KL Rahul start the day alongside Mohammed Sirah on the crease; Rahul left the pitch on Day 1 having added 70 crucial runs in 105 balls, numbers that helped India reach a respectable score after a top-order collapse.

India began their tour of South Africa with a drawn series in the T20Is and ended with a 2-1 series win in the 50-over format. However, the Men in Blue are yet to win a Test series in the Rainbow Nation. Their only biggest feat remains a drawn series back in 2010/11 tour to South Africa. Back in 2021/22 tour, India led the series 1-0 but ended up losing 2-1.

Rohit Sharma and co. will be looking to avert those mistakes and take on a new-look Proteas squad. For Team India, Virat Kohli has returned to India for now to deal with an undisclosed family emergency but, as per reports, is expected back in South Africa in time for the first Test. Furthermore, according to reports, Kohli obtained his release from the Indian camp from the coaching team and returned to Mumbai - where he lives with his wife and actress, Anushka Sharma, and daughter Vamika - promptly, missing India's practice intra-squad Test match.

SuperSport Park Record

India are set to play their 1st Test at the SuperSport Park. The Proteas have played 28 matches at the venue and have won 22 times and lost three. The other three games were draws.

As for Team India, they have played three games here, winning just one and losing two.
