Greetings and welcome to everyone joining us this weekend for some more hockey action. The FIH Junior World Cup continues and India host Oman today in Chennai. Stay with us for the build-up and live updates.
The match starts at 8pm IST. The India vs Oman, FIH Junior Hockey World Cup match will be live streamed on the JioHotstar app and website in India. It will be telecast on the Star Sports Network TV channels in the country.
Here is India's line-up:
It's been raining all afternoon and the downpour continues unabated in the lead-up to this match. That could make for a challenging turf and both teams would need to adapt to it quickly.
The national anthems are out of the way and the first quarter gets underway in Chennai. India attacking from right to left and Oman the other way in the first half.
India are on the board in the fourth minute! Arshdeep Singh is quick to latch on and sounds the board with a clinical field goal to open the scoring early in the first quarter for the hosts.
The first quarter ends with the scoreline staying at 1-0 in favour of the hosts. India are leading, but would not be happy with their performance so far, and would look for more goals in the second quarter.
India get their second goal early in the second quarter. Manmeet Singh it is, who slots the ball into the back of the Oman net to double the hosts' advantage in the 17th minute.
India have a third and Manmeet a second! The midfielder scores in the 26th minute and the hosts are now in cruise control, despite not being able to convert any penalty corner yet.
Two more goals in quick succession! Anmol Ekka scores in the 29th minute and Dilraj Singh joins the party seconds later, as India swell their lead to a healthy 5-0.
India end the first half in absolute command, with a 5-0 scoreline that belies their early struggles with penalty corners. The late goal rush in the second quarter has masked those worries, and only the margin of victory remains to be ascertained in the second half.
The players return to the turf and the third quarter gets underway. India now attacking from left to right and Oman the other way.
This is now turning into a full-blown rout. India have drilled in four goals in the space of five minutes in the third quarter, with Manmeet completing a well-deserved hat-trick and Arshdeep, Dilraj netting two apiece already.
The goal rush continues as Arshdeep also gets to his hat-trick and so does Dilraj. Ajeet, Gurjot have two goals apiece as the scoreline gets to 15-0.
Oman cannot wait for the match to come to an end. India slot in two more goals, with Dilraj Singh scoring both times to get to four goals! Full-time is imminent, but India are still eying an 18th goal.
And that's that, finally. The final hooter goes off and India emerge victors by an ever-emphatic 17-0 margin, to follow up their 7-0 drubbing of Chile. Penalty corner conversion still remains a concern, but head coach PR Sreejesh would be happy with his team's field-goal appetite.
India next take on Switzerland on 2nd December in Madurai. This is both teams' final Pool match, with the group winners and the two best-second placed teams advancing to the quarter-finals. India would aim to stay unbeaten and book their ticket to the last-eight with a third straight win.
