Lando Norris clinched the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix sprint on Saturday (November 8, 2025) and stretched his lead in the drivers' championship race to nine points after his teammate and main rival Oscar Piastri failed to finish the 24 laps at the partially wet Interlagos track. Norris, who started in pole position, added eight points and now has 365 in the standings. Piastri, who spun in the surroundings of turn 3 and crashed onto the wall — as did Alpine's Franco Colapinto and Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg – remains with 356 ahead of Sunday's race. Lando Norris put in an impressive lap to take pole position during sprint qualifying, eclipsing Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli and the other McLaren of Oscar Piastri to seal P1. After setting a benchmark with his banker lap during SQ3, Norris went even quicker with his final effort of 1m 09.243s, a time that proved unbeatable to his rivals. Antonelli was the closest challenger, the Silver Arrows racer 0.097s behind as he took the other spot on the front row.

The indications are clear that the wet weather leading up to the sprint could make the track tricky for drivers. Max Verstappen tells Sky Sports: "It's slicks, just the final straight is a bit damp but the rest of the track is slicks. The car is not where you want it to be so when you can't change the car then not much will feel different today.

"I'm expecting it not to be too easy in this race but let's see, maybe we can make it a bit better for qualifying."

Oscar Piastri is a bit more optimistic. "No matter what the conditions are, it's an opportunity. We'll see what we can do, it's going to be interesting, I think."

It's a dramatic halt to the sprint as McLaren's Oscar Piastri spins out during the sixth lap, and so do Nico Hulkenberg as well as Franco Colapinto. The wet track clearly making things challenging, and that's the end of the race for all three.
