From karting prodigy to F1 headline-maker, Kimi Antonelli’s rise has been pure magic. The 18-year-old Italian in his rookie season with Mercedes set the fastest ever lap (1:26.482) on the Miami track on Friday night, surpassing Max Verstappen's record. Antonelli became the youngest driver ever to take pole in any F1 race format.
He’s already earned points in every race so far, even leading laps in Japan and setting the fastest time there. In Australia, he went from P16 to P4 on debut. And now, in just his second Sprint weekend, he’s starting ahead of Piastri, Norris, and Verstappen.
Charles Leclerc is out of the sprint race. Bad Luck again!
Ferrari’s star crashed into the wall before the spirnt started. He was due to start from P6, but the damage means he’s unable to take part.
The track is currently very wet in Miami, making conditions tricky for all drivers. Let's see how Max gonna tackle.
The rain is now taking an ease, but the track is incredibly wet and the conditions are challenging for the drivers. Expect an early chaos!
The track is now covered in heavy water sprays as rain continues in Miami. The drivers can see nothing. The Safety Car is out, guiding the drivers safely around the track as conditions remain really really tricky.
The Safety Car completed the formation lap, but as the race begins we see the red flag to halt the action. The track is flooded, with water rivers covering the circuit.
McLaren’s Oscar Piastri reported on the radio, “There is no visibility, and this is the worst I’ve ever seen something like this.”
The rain has finally stopped, and while the sky is still cloudy, there’s a hint of sunlight breaking through. The track has improved, with the water mostly gone. Visibility is now okay, as reported by Piastri over the radio. We're all set to get back racing shortly!
Through the sprays, Oscar Piastri takes advantage and moves past Kimi Antonelli at pole, who drops to fourth. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen also make their way ahead, pushing the Mercedes rookie further down the order.
Lap 11/18 | The track conditions are way better now. Enough for race control to enable DRS. Piastri leads. George Russell has come over the radio, expressing that he’s "got a lot more" pace and requesting a position swap with his teammate Kimi Antonelli, who’s currently in P4.
Verstappen and Antonelli make contact in the pits: Verstappen’s release was unsafe, causing some damage to his car. This is a big blow to his race.
And Carlos Sainz crashes into he wall, but manages to continue, although the yellow flags are out due to the debris on the track.
Fernando Alonso has just hit the wall, and now there’s debris scattered all over the track. With the conditions worsening, a Safety Car is certain to be deployed.

In Lap 17/18, Kimi Antonelli is frustrated, dropping to 11th after the pitlane crash with Verstappen, who’s been handed a 10-second penalty for the unsafe release.
Meanwhile, Hamilton is up to 3rd place, praising his team for the excellent pitstops.
Lando Norris got lucky with the Safety Car, pitting at just the right moment and could be leading once the race resumes.
Lando Norris wins the Miami sprint after a well-timed Safety Car helped him jump teammate Oscar Piastri, who still leads the standings by nine points.
Hamilton finished third after a smart strategy call, while Verstappen’s race fell apart with a 10-second penalty, dropping him to P17.
Antonelli was unlucky again, and Leclerc’s absence hurt Ferrari’s chances in the constructors' fight.
