Sporting CP have moved for a new striker after selling Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal, paying €25m to acquire Colombia international Luis Suarez from Almeria.
Gyokeres completed his long-awaited move to Arsenal last week, with Sporting receiving a total package of €72.6m for a player they signed for €20m two years ago.
Former Coventry City striker Gyokeres scored 39 goals in 33 Primeira Liga appearances last season, having netted 29 the previous campaign.
His 68 league goals in the last two seasons were more than any player from Europe's top five leagues managed.
In order to fill the Swede's boots, the Portuguese champions have turned to Suarez, who scored 27 goals for Almeria in the Segunda Division last term. Those goals came from efforts worth 25.83 expected goals (xG), while he converted 40% of his big chances (18/45).
After losing in the play-offs to Real Oviedo, Almeria have sanctioned the sale of their star man, who has five senior caps for Colombia.
Suarez has signed a five-year contract with Sporting, who have reportedly inserted a release clause of €80m into his deal.
Suarez was previously with Watford from 2017 to 2021 but failed to appear in either the Premier League or Championship, while he netted three times in seven Ligue 1 matches for Marseille in 2022-23.
