Punjab FC are on the attack right away. This should be an exciting contest.
Total calamity at the back from Gokulam Kerala. Relentless pressure from Punjab FC, with Suhail running with the ball on the left flank. The winger tried to cut it back across the face of the goal, but it deflected off the thigh of Gursmirat to bounce past Shibin Raj and into the back of the net.
Suhail is celebrating, but it might very well go down as an own goal.
Absolutely amateurish football from Gokulam Kerala. Some horrible defending leads to a shot by Uvais that is barely tipped behind by Shibin Raj. The resulting corner is floated into the box by Princeton, and Nikhil Prabhu outjumps his marker to find the right corner.
Despite their sheer inability to hold on to the ball, the Malabarians are pushing forward in numbers. Most of their attack is coming through Samuel on the right flank, but for now, the Punjab defenders are winning the defensive battle.
Gokulam Kerala are inching closer to finding the back of the net. After winning a free-kick in a dangerous position, Martin had an attempt at goal, but his swinging shot only managed to hit the top of the crossbar and go out.
The game has slowed down a bit, with Punjab FC still dictating the tempo. A cross from the right almost found a Punjab player in the box, but Shibin somehow held on to the loose ball. The Malabarian defenders are pretty much hoofing up the ball over the half-way line, looking not to concede any more before half-time.
This is the last thing that Gokulam would have wanted, conceding right before half-time. Suhail, this time on the right flank, is given acres of space by the Gokulam defence. He plays it to Princeton, who has a surprise shot at goal from outside the box. It beats Shibin, who was at full stretch, to find the bottom corner.
After two minutes of added time, the referee blows the half-time whistle, and Punjab FC lead 3-0 at the break against Gokulam Kerala.
Both sets of players are out on the field, and the second half is underway. Trailing by three goals and with all to play for in the second half, Gokulam Kerala make a double change. Shibin Raj comes on and is replaced by Rakshit Dagar in between the sticks. Juan Carlos Rico comes on in place of Emil Benny.
A much better start from Gokulam Kerala, with the fresh legs injecting energy into the forward line. Bijoy saw a yellow card for a foul, and the centre-back will need to be careful.
The first 15 minutes of the second half have clearly belonged to Gokulam, putting Shabir's goal under immense pressure from the countless corners that they have had so far. However, the only thing that matters is goals, which Gokulam are yet to score any. The Shers are playing it safe, and their goalkeeper has stepped up whenever he was called into action.
Meanwhile, Leon Augustine comes in place of Suhail, and Daniel Ramirez replaces Kipgen.
A bit of controversy, with Harpreet putting the ball into the back of the net. His celebration is cut short, as the referee blows his whistle, possibly for a foul on the goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Samuel comes off for Gokulam, and on comes Trijoy Dias.
With less than 25 minutes to defend their three-goal cushion, Punjab FC make a double change. Pramveer replaces Bijoy at the back, and Ricky Shabon comes on in place of Zeljkovic.
It has been a much slower second half, and Gokulam have arguably been the better side. However, there have been no goals, which means that the game is pretty much done and dusted.
After Ramirez is hacked down, the Malabarians come forward again, Alfred has a direct attempt at goal that goes over the bar. The Spaniard has been one of the better players on the pitch, and he lays it off to Trijoy, but the latter's effort is not on target.
Albert's race is run for tonight, and on comes Shighil. This is the final card that the Gokulam manager had left to play, but nothing has gone their way tonight.
It goes from bad to worse for the Malabarians, with substitute Trijoy Dias seeing a direct red card for a high boot kick on the back of Ricky. Gokulam are down to ten men.
After five minutes of injury time at the end of the regulation ninety, the referee blows his whistle to bring the match to an end. It was a superb performance from Punjab FC in the first half, and the Shers successfully defended their three-goal lead against an improved Gokulam Kerala side.
