Greetings and welcome to everyone joining us this Saturday evening for some football action. Kyrgyzstan take on Turkmenistan in the Group A opener and we will bring to you the build-up and live updates from the match.
The match kicks off at 5:30pm IST. The Kyrgyzstan vs Turkmenistan, CAFA Nations Cup group A match will not be broadcast on TV in India. It will also not be live-streamed on any platforms in India.
When it comes to past meetings, there’s little to separate the two teams. Since 2010, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan have faced each other only twice, each winning once. Their most recent clash was a friendly in October 2016, where Kyrgyzstan edged past Turkmenistan with a 1-0 victory.
The match gets underway at the Olympic Stadium in Tashkent. Kyrgyzstan kicking from left to right and Turkmenistan from right to left in the first half.
We are yet to see an opening goal in the first Group A fixture of the CAFA Nations Cup. Goals are worth their weight in gold in the contest, given that each side plays only three games in the group stage before the third-fourth place match and final are played among the teams that qualify for them.
With no goals in the first 42 minutes, the action heats up in the last few moments of the first half. Wepa Jumayew puts Turkmenistan ahead in the 43rd minute, before Joel Kojo equalizes for Kyrgyz Republic in the 45th. We are back on level terms at half time.
And the teams return for the second half. Remember that the winner of this match goes to the top of the Group A standings for now.
The match ends in a 1-1 stalemate so the teams split points. There could be no addition to the late first-half goals from Wepa Jumayew and Joel Kojo, and thus Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan take joint lead in group A.
Oman currently lead hosts Uzbekistan 1-0 in the second Group A match of the evening. There are no games on Sunday, but Monday sees India take on Iran in a crucial game for Khalid Jamil's men, followed by Afghanistan meeting Tajikistan.
