Btoh sets of players are out on the pitch and take their formations on the pitch. Zimbabwe, in their all-green kit, kick-off the third-placed match against India in their orange away kits.
It has been a measured start from Zimbabwe, who are trying to buid up from the back, but a couple of good tackles from Bheke and Jhingan has kept Gupreet’s goal unbothered. India, on the other hand, are looking to play direct football to their wingers, with Vipin having an early run that came to nothing.
It has been a tight start to the match, with neither side conceding an inch in the early stages. Zimbabwe have a chance as the ball finds the run of Navaya on the left, but he overruns the ball into the gloves of Gurpreet.
India have a chance from a long throw that Bheke drives into the box. The ball is headed towards the middle, but Zimbabwe clear. The break is on, but the long ball is a bit too long and runs out into the touchline for a harmless throw for India.
The match has opened up a bit after the drinks break, and Vipin Singh makes a good run down the left but it’s broken by a terrific challenge by captain Takwara. The game has been a defensive masterclass so far.
Penalty for Zimbabwe!! It's a poor challenge from Farukh, who leans into the back of Munetsi. The Paris FC man goes tumbling, and the referee immediately points to the spot. Dube steps up to take the resulting spot kick and sends Gurpreet the wrong way.
Smart save from Gurpreet to deny Mongameli! It’s a brillaint run from Munestri to get at the end of a through ball. The Paris FC winger cuts it back into the middle where Mongameli takes a shot with the outside of his foot. Gurpreet gets down quickly to hold on to the ball.
India are pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but so far, all their attacking moves have been wasted due to wayward decision making. The fourth official adds no extra time, and the referee blows the half-time whistle.
Both sets of players are out on the pitch for the second half. One change for Zimbabwe as Mauchi comes on in place of Garananga. Khalid Jamil opts for an unchanged XI for the second half, which India get underway.
After a bright start by India, they have to defend against a free-kick awarded on the right to Zimbabwe. The ball is played into the middle where it’s met by Maroodza, but his header flies just over the crossbar.
An hour of football has been played, and Zimbabwe are dominating the tempo of the match, despite India's attempts to use their wings to break the Zimbabwean defensive line. A sliding tackle from Mthunzi gives India a throw, which Bheke ends into the box. Zimbabwe fail to clear the danger, and Chhangte hits a low shot that is deflected into the post by the goalkeeper. A real change for the Blue Tigers!
Chhangte is not happy with his teammates for nothing pushing forward in numbers. India manage to win a throw, which Bheke once again floats in towards the box. This time the Warriors clear and break forward with venom, but the resulting pace in intercepted by Gurpreet.
A corner opportunity for Zimbabwe, which is played short. The resulting ball into the box results in the offside flag going up, but the Warriors are comfortable with their slender lead at the moment. India make a change as Chhangte is withdrawn, and one comes Sanan.
What a chance for India to level the contest!! A brilliant first-time cross by Akash Mishra finds Nickson, and he heads it inches away from the target with the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
With time ticking away, Khalid Jamil makes a change as Jeakson replaces Nickson. Just over seven minutes plus stoppage time for India to find an equaliser and send this match to penalties.
After four minutes of stoppage time, the referee blows his whistle to bring the match to an end. Zimbabwe win courtesy of Dube's first-half penalty. India, for all their efforts, will return empty-handed ahead of the two-match friendly series against Tajikistan.
