The India vs Vietnam, AFC Champions League 2026 match will be played at the Perth Rectangular Stadium in Australia on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM IST.
Match underway and Vietnam puts immediate pressure on India's box. NGAN THI VAN SU's ambitious shot flies over the Indian goalpost. The stadium is buzzing as action commences. India are alert on defence.
Nothing to separate the two sides. Both teams have flashed attacks on the other side but none could breach the defence. On two occasions, Manisha Kalyan has almost made it through from the left wing. Sangita Basfore also forced a save from the Vietnamese goalkeeper Kim Thanh. But Vietnam has dominated the midfield so far and tried to open up their forwards Van Su and Bich Thuy.
Vietnam establish control and dominate. They launch three attacks on the Indian goal either of which could have ended in a goal. Bich Thuy's long range attempt dipped and struck the crossbar after Vietnam's press caused India's to lose possession around their own box. Huynh Nhu entered the box through a one-two and could have slotted the ball in. Also on one occasion, Indian goalkeeper Panthoi came out of the blocks quickly and picked up the ball from the feet of the advancing striker.
Ngan Thi Van Su was the first one to take a shot in the match and she is the first one to score a goal in the game as well. Vietnam were already dominating the midfield and flooding the Indian box with numbers. Bich Thuy has been a headache for the Indian defence with her runs and she against distracts them to drop the ball for Thi Thao who passes the ball to the path of Van Su who curls it into the second post past Panthoi. Solid play from Vietnam.
India try to come back in the play and amp up their intensity despite Bich Thuy trying to trouble them with her runs. India are looking to keep more possession and move the ball. A big chance came up for them when Manisha Kalyan drifted to the midfield, retained the ball and sneaked in a through ball with a trivela. Soumya Guguloth received it but her first touch was big enough for Kim Thanh to come out rushing and clear the ball.
The first half comes to an end and it can be said that India had to work hard to keep the lead to only a single goal. They had looked good in the first ten minutes but since then it was all Vietnam. They controlled possession, picked up splitting passes and their forwards sliced through the Indian defence, Panthoi's excellent goalkeeping followed by Sweety Devi's resilient defence has kept Vietnam's lead to a slender 1-0 till the break. India will have to utilise their opportunities to level things.
Second half underway and it sees drama immediately. Thi Thao has a ball gently fall to her from the right wing after an Indian defender misses the header. Panthoi makes the initial save but the ball keeps bubbling and finally Thao gets it inside the net. But VAR check shows that she was in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.
Sanfida Nongrum scores from nowhere and brings India back in the game. Rimpa Haldar was driving with the ball in the midfield when she was tackled and the loose ball fell kindly in behind the Vietnam defence to Nongrum who made a timely run. Her shot partly brushes the hands of Kim Thanh before lobbing inside the goal. Solid start to the second half from India.
India keep pushing for the second goal despite Vietnam's attacks. Nongrum was the one who ended up with another chance as she met a cross from the right wing. But the ball looped over the crossbar due to lack of proper contact from her. Earlier, a Vietnamese forward got pushed in the box but referee didn't give penalty after VAR check.
India have changed their strategy and it has helped them be competitive in the game. With fresh legs injected, they are pressing Vietnam player to player in the midfield and pushes the defence line up. It has opened up India to counter-attacks but they have also been able to find some chances through Manisha Kalyan and Xaxa.
Vietnam have tried to find the winning goal from all ends of the pitch. Vu Thi Hoa, recently subbed in, finds a loose ball inside the India box and tries to lob it over the head of the advancing Panthoi. But her contact was too big as the ball sailed over the goal and her studs struck Panthoi's knee and she went down. The medics had to come in before she continue and Thi Hoa is booked.
India concede in the injury time and that should be it for them. Vietnam finally get the reward of their waves of attack. They were going all out for goal knowing they will have to face Japan and Chinese Taipei next, and they find what they wanted. A ball comes from the left wing, Sweety Devy fails to clear it and Van Su bends her run from the right to slot it home under the legs of Martina and beyond the reach of Panthoi. She completes her brace and registers what could be a potential winner for Vietnam.
India will be heartbroken. They were steadily progressing towards aa draw and a very important point but the last few minutes changed things for them. Started the game positively but Vietnam eventually took control of things. They dominated midfield and created chances which were desperately being saved by Panthoi. Eventually they broke through the resistance with Van Su scoring the first. In the start of the second half, a Vietnam goal was disallowed and immediately later Nongrum scored brining India back on level terms. As it looked the match would be ending in a draw with India putting the shutter down, Van Su scored again to give Vietnam the lead again and the victory. India will now have to face the tough challenge of Japan and Taipei to get out of the group.
