The CAFA Nations Cup 2025 third-place match between India and Oman won’t be televised in India, but fans can catch the live stream on FanCode.
India and Oman have faced each other 10 times in international football, with the latter holding a clear edge. India have managed just one win, in their first-ever meeting.
Since then, Oman have won six matches, while three have ended in draws. Their encounters have spanned World Cup qualifiers, friendlies, and regional competitions.
India, ranked 133rd, face 79th-ranked Oman in the CAFA Nations Cup 2025 third-place playoff on Monday in Hisor. Under new coach Khalid Jamil, the Blue Tigers have shown fight with a win, a draw and a loss, though they will miss injured defender Sandesh Jhingan. Oman hold a dominant head-to-head record with seven wins and three draws, but Jamil believes his side can end their debut campaign on a high.
Oman XI: Mukhaini (GK), Mabrook, Al Khamisi, Al Rushaidi, Busaidi, Al Rawahi, Al Mashaiki, Al Mushaifri, Fawaz, Al Kaabi; Al Sabhi
The stadium’s buzzing already, we’re kicking off with the national anthems. India’s first up, voices rising strong and proud, and now it’s Oman’s turn. Both sets of players look fired up, eyes locked, ready to scrap for that bronze medal. You can feel the tension building, kickoff just moments away.
Kick-off in Hisor! India 0-0 Oman in the very first minute.
Oman are quick to stamp their authority, pushing forward from the get-go. Danish, though, makes his presence felt with a crunching challenge on Mushaifri. First whistle, first freekick, looks like we’re in for a fiery one.
Al Mushaifri sparks life into the contest with a darting run down the left, his cutback looking dangerous until it pops kindly into Gurpreet’s gloves. A little scare, safely dealt with. India try to answer back in a flash, launching it long toward Vikram Pratap, but let’s be honest, that aerial duel was never really his to win.
Oman look a bit rattled in midfield, India snapping into tackles, breaking up play, and shutting the door on any neat passing moves. Six minutes gone, and the Red Warriors haven’t found a way into India’s final third. Big question: can the Blue Tigers keep this relentless press going?
Oman have really found their rhythm now, moving the ball around smoothly and dictating the tempo. India just can’t get a foothold, struggling to string passes together and mostly hacking it clear into the Oman half without much purpose.
Finally, a chance for India to test Oman’s defence. A free kick in a promising spot, Chhangte whips in a teasing ball toward the far post. For a moment it has the Oman backline scrambling, but they just about manage to hack it clear. A little warning shot from the Blue Tigers.
Ohhh what a moment that was! Uvais hurls it deep into the mixer, Bheke rises to flick it on, and Anwar Ali meets it with a thunderous header. It’s heading goalwards, but Al Mukhaini flings himself across to his right and pulls off a brilliant save.
First real spark of the match, and it’s India drawing blood with the opening punch.
A costly bit of hesitation from Danish as he dwells too long on the ball and gets dispossessed. Oman break instantly, Al Busaidi curling in a beauty of a cross that has danger written all over it, only for Bheke to throw himself at it and scramble clear.
India try to hit back the other way. Mahesh picks out Vikram with a neat pass, but instead of driving forward, Vikram slips it toward Irfan. The centre-forward can’t bring it under control, and the chance evaporates.
Oman firmly on the ball, enjoying a massive possession so far. India, meanwhile, have been chasing shadows with just 24% to their name.
We’re back after the cooling break! Time to see if India can shake off that sluggish start and put some pressure on Oman.
Chhangte sprints back like a man on a mission, stopping an Oman surge down the left. He lashes out at the ball to clear it, a little wild, but harmless. Al Sabhi tries to punish it with a looping volley, only to connect with nothing but thin air. India escape unscathed.
India are keeping the pressure on, 0-0 at 39’, as Vikram slams into Al Rushaidi once again. How he’s not on a yellow, only the ref will know.
India 0-0 Oman as the referee blows for the break. No goals yet, but the first half has been anything but boring, Oman have dominated possession, probing patiently, while India have shown flashes of danger on the counter.
Chhangte’s lung-busting runs, Bheke’s crucial clearances, and a couple of near misses from Anwar Ali have kept things tense. Both teams will have a lot to think about during the break as we gear up for what promises to be a fiery second half.
Second Half underway, India 0-0 Oman as the CAFA Nations Cup 2025 third-place match resumes. India make an early change, bringing on Jithin MS for Vikram, fresh legs ready to make an impact as the Blue Tigers look to find a breakthrough.
Oman finally break through the Indian defence in the 55th minute. After enduring sustained pressure, India’s backline cracks, and a cross from the left finds Yahmadi, who smashes a first-time effort with the outside of his boot into the far corner. Oman take the lead, 1-0.
Oman come close to extending their lead with a strike from the edge of the box. The shot takes a slight deflection and drifts just wide, rolling out for a goal kick. India escape a nervy moment.
India respond in style, levelling the scores. A long throw-in causes chaos in the Oman box, the ball flicked behind, and Udanta Singh stretches to meet it with a diving header that finds the back of the net. The Blue Tigers are right back in it.
The scoreline reads 1-1, and we’re set for 30 tense minutes of extra time, with penalties waiting if neither team can strike. Oman had been in total control for much of the second half, making India’s comeback seem unlikely, but Udanta Singh’s sensational diving header off another long throw has kept the Blue Tigers in the hunt.
India apply some pressure and win a corner, but it comes to nothing. The cross lacks quality, and Oman easily clears, keeping the scoreline level as the extra time ticks on.
Gurpreet shouts at Valpuia to close down his marker, but the right-back hesitates. The resulting cross sails over, and Al Ghassani tries to salvage the attack down the right, only for Suresh to stand firm and snuff it out. India survive the scare.
After two intense hours of football, India and Oman are still level, and the CAFA Nations Cup 2025 third-place clash is heading to a penalty shootout. Every kick will count as both teams go head-to-head in a high-stakes finale to claim bronze.
India hold their nerve in a tense penalty shootout, edging past Oman 3-2 to finish third in the CAFA Nations Cup 2025.
That’s a wrap from Hisor. Huge credit to coach Khalid Jamil and the Blue Tigers for a memorable performance. We’ll be back with another live blog soon, until then, goodbye.
