The match gets underway in Hisor. India kicking from left to right and Iran from right to left in the first half.
Here's a quick look at the line-up that Khail Jamil has gone with for today's encounter:
As expected, Iran push India on the backfoot early in the game with their attacking flair. Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh is called into action and he wards off a couple of early threats.
India have not scored against Iran since 1966, and it will take some doing to break the 49-year-old streak.
The first cooling break arrives after 30 minutes and India have managed to keep a clean sheet so far. The Blue Tigers have withstood Iran's attack waves and setpieces, with captain Sandesh Jhingan spearheading the Indian defence well so far.
Four minutes of stoppage time added in the first half. We are still goalless and the scoreline still remains like that after the half-time whistle, it would be a job well done for India.
There comes the whistle and it indeed is 0-0, going into the lemon break. Splitting points with Asia's second-highest ranked team would be a creditable feat for India and they need to play 45 more minutes of structured football for that.
The second half gets underway. India kicking from right to left and Iran from left to right now. Will the second half see the Indian defensive defiance continue? We'll find out soon.
Iran have enjoyed 80 percent of the possession, which says all that there is about who's calling the shots. But India, despite just 20% possession, have managed to avoid goals so far and that's what matters for them.
The commentator's curse, as it were. Iran break the deadlock in the 59th minute via Amirhossein Hosseinzadeh, who latches on to Hossein Kanaanizadegan's cross. India concede the dreaded goal and now need something special to somehow avoid defeat.
India work hard to string together an offensive move in the 76th minute, but Muhammed Uvais lacks that clinicality to make the most of it. Meanwhile, Iran bring in star forward Mehdi Taremi for Mahdi Rahimabadi.
That's the match done and dusted. Ali Alipour finds the back of the net in the third go of an Iran move in the 89th minute. Jahanbaksh takes first crack, which is saved by Gurpreet but the ball eventually hit the sidebar and comes Alipour's way, who drills it in.
Mehdi Taremi nets at the stroke of full time. Jahanbaksh at the heart of the Iran move again and Taremi makes no mistake from close range in the sixth minute of added time. India down 0-3 now.
The full-time whistle follows soon after. India began the game promisingly and maintained a clean sheet in the first half. But Iran persisted with the attacking moves and reaped rewards for it through the second half, with Taremi's late strike capping it off.
India will next take on Afghanistan for their third and final group B game on Thursday, September 4. With Iran likely to take top spot, Khalid Jamil's men must win their last group match to stay in contention for a top-three finish.
